Was not impressed with the panel today, I was waiting for an english dub announcement for tokyo mew mew new after hidive teased it months ago. HIDIVE disappointed many fans who wanted an english dub for tokyo mew mew new including myself.

well, that's your own fault for believing that a poll of all things on twitter was actually going to mean anything significant and not just more hidive twitter shenanigans
Anyway, except for maybe Giant Beats, nothing here really interests me Last edited by getchman on Fri Oct 28, 2022 11:07 pm; edited 1 time in total |

They might still dub it at a certain point.
As far as the article, nice to see them dubbing some major shows! I'm looking forward to the English cast of Eminence and Urusei Yatsura! Also cool to see them licensing some nicher stuff as well as movies! That one I've been interested in. |

Did not expect Tunnel to Summer. That's nice.

Maybe I'll end up picking up Akiba Maid in dub then.
Didn't expect Queen to be licensed ever, seems like an interesting ova so I'll check it out |

I was surprised they got Mirage Queen Prefers Circus which I've been excited for as it has Yuga Yamato in it and she was Tuxedo Mask in the newer live action Sailor Moon musicals and I love her a lot. I wasn't expecting them to get The Tunnel To Summer, the Exit to Goodbyes as that seemed like something Gkids would get but I'm glad it got picked up. I'm also excited for the Urusei Yatsura reboot to be dubbed and I'm also glad they got Lupin Zero. I hope that means Toonami will get to air it too. I assume if it happens at all that a Tokyo Mew Mew New dub will happen closer to the BD release at this point. I'm wondering though what's taking them so long with the Kaiji dub?

If they are going to be doing more dubs, they really need to get more ADR Directors. At the moment the bulk of their dubs are directed by John Swasey, Kyle Jones and Shannon Reed. I think David Wald directs at Funimation nowadays, Matt Greenfield hasn't done anything since Den-noh Coil and Emily Neves stopped doing dubs there about 5 years ago.

This! Sentai should also hire more talents like the new VA's who pop up in Funimations remote recording dub in 2020 like Brendan Blabber, Gianni Matragrano, Steven Kelly, Arryn Zech, Elsie Lovelock, Paul Dateh, etc. Also, i really want Sentai outsource their dub to other studios like Sound Cadence Studios, Okratron 5000, Nano, New Generation Pictures. But this begs a question, are those studios only for Funi/Crunchyroll and Discotek or Sentai just being cheap ? can Sentai use those studio too as well ? |

Seems like HiDIVE co-produced "Giant Beast of the Ars" just for the sake of them being able to brag that they were able to sit at the production committee. After all, no one expects that title to be good. Heck, I don't think anyone would even touch that show with a 10-feet pole. Its one of the saddest co-productions that I've seen today.

I'm curious. Has anyone ever seen a Sentai dub that truly wowed them? Not one that's just okay or listenable, but one that truly exceeded all expectations? The best ones I've seen are The World God Only Knows and Another, and those weren't really incredible. I just don't know if I should expect much from their dubs, unlike the latest Funimation, Viz, and even Aniplex ones.

New Generation Pictures is a California studio and Sentai stopped outsourcing to LA a long time ago. https://www.sentaifilmworks.com/a/news/ask-sentai-18-nozaki-kun-box-sets-and-sentai-studios

I thought they did a great job with the Golden Time dub. |

Co-productions was one of the things I thought Sentai/HIDIVE ought to do when AMC bought them. I hope this is successful for them, and they do more. It would be great if they could co-produce more seasons for older shows like No Game, No Life and Monster Musume. I selfishly want to see second seasons for Bloom into You and Domestic Girlfriend.
I believe a dub is still happening, but it could start streaming around February to coincide with season 2.
Sentai has plenty of English dubs of high quality like Parasyte, Scum's Wish, Chuunibyou, Land of the Lustrous, Tadakoi. The problem is that some people have decided that Sentai sucks at dubbing and have never bothered to watch any of the dubs they have produced since 2015, which is when their dubs dramatically started improving in quality. |

Eminence in Shadow getting a dubcast doesn't surprise me. I would argue that it is the show with the most obvious widespread appeal among the Fall HIDIVE exclusive shows. Reincarnated as a Sword is a more traditional story, but done solidly, so I'm happy it's getting some appreciation. Urusei Yatsura has some classic status, though I am still a little surprised it got a simuldub (though to be fair, because of its classic status, it was likely to get a dub for the eventual Bluray release). Akihabara Maid War is one of the most unique shows of the season especially because it's anime original, but to be fair, there isn't a lot of competition in the anime original category.
