Just...why?
Like, I'm not one of those people who thinks you shouldn't do live action adaptations of manga/anime, there are plenty of enjoyable ones. But Netflix has already messed this up royally once before. And now I have to live in the eternal nightmare of knowing that failure won't stop them even from using the same source material.
Also, there are probably more worthwhile ventures than another adaptation of Death Note.

Wow! This is exciting!
...
We've never seen Netflix ruin an adaptation of a manga twice!

To be fair, Netflix had nothing to do with that movie. They just bought the film (or streaming rights?) when the original distributor decided against a theatrical release.

It's an understandable mistake. People see the Netflix Original label and just assume Netflix was responsible for its creation when in reality alot of things with that label were simply licensed by Netflix.
It is weird for this kind of thing to happen admittedly but I guess Netflix really wanted to take a Crack at it.

Making a movie based on the same story twice and messing up both times

Yes, it’s the Stranger Things’ producers first post-Stranger Things project. Which all things considered has me thinking that they asked to do the project, rather than it being an assignment.

If I'm not mistaken, they bought the package with the director, writer/script, producer, and stars from New Line after they had all already signed on, but before filming began. It was still filmed as a Netflix original, probably with some supervision, even though they didn't pick the cast and crew, and the script was likely already finished.

Wait, so if that previous one wasn't actually Netflix.. that means we've yet to see the true unfiltered version of a Netflix Adaption of Death Note? Oh dear.
