There's a stark difference between the world of adults and the world of children in the series and often growing-up (physically and emotionally) is traumatic for the characters. Do you think this is an experience viewers also relate to?

KOJIMA: I don't know what the world of adults and the world of children refers to, but in Made in Abyss, there are dangers that children are prone to falling into.

It was interesting reading the response to this question because the responder was confused by the presupposition built into the question.

I would have liked to see a follow-up question from Lynzee clarifying what she meant. To be honest I'm not entirely clear myself. I'm guessing that it was referring to the way the children experience/see the world of Abyss as opposed to adults. Although I'm not entirely sure I'd agree with that.

Certainly some of the adults we have encountered such as Bondrewd and Wazukyan seem willing to go to extreme lengths in pursuits of their desire and longing to plumb the mysteries of the Abyss that we have yet to see Riko or her team demonstrate.

However Riko is driven in her own fashion, willing to risk life and limb and open to all manner of diarrhea inducing experiences for the sake exploring the Abyss.

The sense of awe, wonder and longing that the Abyss inspires seems universal to both adults and children who seek to plumb it's depths and the suffering it exacts also seems universal.

it is a shame that it will take a quite a few years before we get any more of a continuation, the anime has practically caught up to the manga with it only a few chapters ahead and it is a rather slow release series and than you need all the time to animate it.

So it will be awhile till we see anything else, i just hope it stays relevant enough that it will comeback.

As for that last question, I really think it would have been too bad to pass up a chance to go for that hot, spicy testicle served at Moogie’s.

I think the production crew really made a good decision with changing up the Ganja section from the way the manga did it by intertwining the story from the very start and not just having it as its own chunk I the middle of the arc. It made the story loose some of the mystery aspect of the village early on, but opened for the viewers to theorycraft throughout the episodes and made the connections with the new characters so much better.

Also think it’s a good point that the fact that our main cast are children is something that allows them to see the world of the abyss in a different way than the adults that surround them, and let them keep that sense of innocence that you very often see characters end up sacrificing as they decent into the abyss.

Kinema citrus really outdid themselves again this season, you can clearly see that it’s a series the studio cares about and want to make a good as possible. Fantastic season sosu. Big thanks to everyone involved with this project! We’re really lucky to have such a good adaptation of this wonderful treasure of a series that is Made in abyss. Fingers crossed that we’ll get the same crew working on season 3 whenever that will be, I know I’ll be very much looking forward to it! Until next time – SANbureMU sosu!

I wouldn't say that, I just felt that season 1 has horrors and wonders, where as season 2 is relentless in its cruelty.

The interspersing of the flashbacks with the present was actually my favorite part of how this arc went, so kudos to the staff for the change. I haven't read the source material, but that would have been a lot of flashback in a chunk so it was a great change for the anime adaptation.
