Nice rundown. No mention of the voice acting? You can't go wrong with either sub or dub, and the dub in particular features some very nice work from J. Michael Tatum and Brina Palencia. Hopefully they come back to S&W 3.

While some of the technical aspects may not have aged well, the core of the show is more than strong enough to carry it.
I just hope S3 lives up to what came before.

So the new anime will be a new season and not a reboot?

nothing has been said outside of new anime, but there are a few possible outcomes
* they're going to start over from the beginning, as though the originals never happened
* the "Brotherhood" strategy, speedrun the areas the first adaptation did well on and slow down to regular pace after reaching areas where it didn't adapt
* or this could be something else altogether

I don't see why a new cour couldn't adapt the novellas through the seventeenth (17th) volume. And that doesn't even include the short stories that follow, if they want to go that route. And then there's the sequel series ─ assuming that the production committee has the rights to it, that is. So there are any number of differently-linked novellas that the production studio conceivably could adapt.

i just hope its not the sequel.
a theoretical season 3 has big payoff with all the returning character and plot elements.
regarding the romance, when i just started watching a time i got this feeling. by watching the record of lodoss.wars intro, that sadly the anime did not manage to trigger, but thankfully spice and wolf managed to create that feeling in the actual plot.

Thanks for all your replies. Then, I'll wait for more info before watching any anime of this series (old or new).

You should all check out the Audible audiobooks if you haven’t already. J. Michael Tatum reads them! (The light novels made into audiobooks seem like a recent initiative!)
