Was hoping they'd get steelbook releases to match the ones I have for 'Your Name.' and 'Weathering With You.'

(yes, I realize your name was the funi release and not gkids)

Seems a little odd to put Voices of a Distant Star and She and Her Cat as part of the 5 Centimeters Per Second Blu-ray. I'd think it would make more sense to put it with The Place Promised in Our Early Days since that was the earliest of his bigger productions. Unless they stuck them with 5 Centimeters Per Second so that people who might already have the Discotek Blu-ray could have a reason to double-dip??

It's actually a copy of a Japanese 2011 release of 5cm Per Second. And since that film's a half hour shorter than the Promised Place, it's a good place to fit some extra very short films.

I'm assuming they're only gonna include the redub for 5cm, but I still wonder if they're gonna include the Makoto Shinkai vocal track for VODS

It looks like they're just matching the Japanese release of 5cm, which includes those other films.

EDIT:
Looks like I was a little slow on posting this lol. Someone else beat me to it.

Interesting. I guess that makes sense. I'm honestly surprised that the Japanese Blu-ray would include Voices for "free" on 5cm. I'd expect them to just release Voices of a Distant Star on its own as a separate Blu-ray release.

as great as it is and worth owning a physical copy,it's hard to sell a single 25 minute short on BD and nothing else in it.

The original DVD release of Voices (which I have) also included the original version of the short She and Her Cat as well as Shinkai's own dub (with his then-girlfriend) of Voices. That added some extra value to what was still a pretty short release.

It also came with an interview and the production animatic as well, the latter of which I thought was pretty unique.

Honestly just by marketing it as "The FIRST work by the creator of Your Name!" I bet they'd be able to get it to sell pretty well on it's own. I don't have any release of 5cm though, so I don't mind double dipping for VODS

It would be a pretty hard sell these days in the North American market, but I was specifically talking about the Japanese release. It is not at all uncommon for a DVD or Blu-ray anime release in Japan to come out with about a half hour of content and that be it beyond special features.

Is there even an HD master of Voices? I know it's been released on Blu-ray in Japan and UK, but the product page for the Japanese BD says it's in SD and I can't find any info on how it is on the UKBD (I only have the UKDVD and haven't double dipped yet)

I'm glad that I don't have to pay bad after market prices for Children Who Chase Lost Voices now.

I'd buy it if its a box set with all the films and shorts, otherwise individually they are not as strong or long to warrant getting.

5 Centimeters Per Second opened in Japan in 2007. The film is split into three individual segments, and it premiered in Japan in 2007. Crunchyroll previously released 5 Centimeters Per Second (Byōsoku 5 Centimeter - a chain of short stories about their distance.) on DVD in 2011 with the help of Bandai Entertainment.
your forgetting when CR released it on 10 VHS tapes

Extremely likely going to double-dip on 5cm Per Second now, if anything because I'd like to own a physical version of Voices and She and Her Cat. If it's the Discotek dub, then that's even better, as I have the original ADV DVD release. Although would be cool if this new release had both dubs on it so I could have both on Blu-Ray. Will also get Place Promised at some point.
