The actual Japanese title is "Sonic vs. Knuckles?" Nice.
It's kind of funny how Tails is the only one to keep his game VA in both languages.
Kimura fits.

Except for his baggage. I’m in the tokusatsu fandom and around the time he got a role in Kamen Rider Revice, people came out with receipts about some really racist social media posts. Blackface, among other things.

It seems kind of gross to me they casted the seiyuu who did blackface to voice Knuckles in the Japanese dub when he’s played a black man in the original film.

I wonder if that's part of why they cast him (not specifically for blackface, but more for voice-matching a black actor).

Voice matching is most likely the case. He voices Sam in Twisted Wonderland who is based off of Dr. Facilier from The Princess and the Frog and is also black.
