Now this is the kind of book I would pick up on cover alone (if it weren't Kindle exclusive Crying or Very sad ). Leo's eyes are beautiful. S & N keeps popping up in my rec list on Renta!, but the title always makes me think it will be something much kinkier. For some reason. I can't really explain it.

In the case of The Two Lions, that feeling isn't Junpei's realization that he's gay or bi (we don't know for certain that he's ever been attracted to women, just that he didn't know he was attracted to men)
Seriously, though, the trend in modern BL to not constantly frame attraction to men in relation to women is just really great. I think it's a win for pretty much everyone (except a few incredibly specific categories of fujoshi, who at least aren't motivated by overt homophobia).

Well, this title adds to my recent swath of BL manga that have really interested me with more sincere treatment of the MC's feelings, and less tropes. This sounds like a really nice and cute story. Definitely will have to check this one out.

It is nice to get more titles that depart from that. I just recently read Our Dining Table and that title handled the mutual attraction between the MC's in the same vein.

I don't think it is Kindle exclusive, on Seven Seas it shows a bunch of places that are selling it (I am currently trying to avoid all things kindle and comixology since Amazon really messed things up there).

Those two are Gintoki and Hijikata, right? I'm not the only one who sees it?

Amazon wasn't even listing it physical, so I didn't think to check elsewhere. Now that I have checked a bunch of other retailers, they're all sold out, which does indeed suggest there was, at some point, a physical edition. I am disappoint (and clearly need to poke my local bookstores regularly).

A modern classic! The "cute little brother" and "family dinner" tropes both make for a very strong case that not all tropes are bad.

This seems like an interesting title, even if it's just the one volume. I'll have to check it out at some point.

Also, I'm honestly a little baffled by how people in this discussion are using the word "trope" as though tropes are a bad thing. A trope is simply a storytelling convention or device, whether it's plot or character-related. There wouldn't even be any stories without tropes, and they aren't inherently good or bad. It's what you do with those tropes that determine a work's quality.

And when it comes to BL, I wish people would accept that times have changed and a lot of stereotypes of the genre aren't nearly as common as they were in the early to mid 2000s. There's a much wider variety of BL available now, as this volume shows.

Most people use the word to mean "overused or annoying cliche," rather than the tvtropes-promoted definition of "any major or minor aspect shared by more than two unrelated works but not necessarily a basic component of reality or normal human experience." The latter ranges from villain archetypes to subtle characteristics of the eyes of female anime characters, so it's... not really specific enough for normal conversation, unless you're talking about editing that wiki.

Funnily enough Furuya Nagisa has written a couple of Gintoki/Hijikata doujins that are pretty wholesome

I’ve read all her stories, except for S&N. Somehow pushy characters are not my cup of Rea. Anyway, as much as I’ve enjoyed the ones that have been released, the 2 I would love to see released over here have not. Hopefully someone will release those 2 series. I would definitely buy them in a heartbeat.
