RetroCrush is like Discotek in that they specialize in out-of-print and more-obscure anime license/rescues. I don't know how RC has, is, or will fair business wise but I hope they did, are, and will do well.

Definitely interested in checking out The Story of Saiunkoku. Between RetroCrush, Discotek and all the other anime distributors, the effort to make available outside of Japan every single anime ever created continues!

So two things

1. I just went looked on RetroCrush and I couldn't find the Mashiba vs Kimura OVA they only have the first 75 episodes and the Champions Road movie

2. You say that OVA was subbed and dubbed but I thought that was one of the things that wasn't dubbed. Did it really get dubbed?

Yes, please! It is a really good anime but does have some entry barriers. The story is quite relevant because there is spoiler[ an epidemic breakout].

Gotta love RetroCrush and their catalogue.

What is the deal with ColourCloud Palace (The Story of Saiunkoku) season 2?

It seems that every other streaming service has season 1 dubs (Amazon Prime, Peacock, now RetroCrush) but season 2 subs or dubs are nowhere to be seen. Did American distributor dropped it after first season?

Ryoko was a show I had wanted to see for some time now, but never managed to. Now I can see it, and on a service I already use. Cool.

The first season of Saiunkoku was one of the last shows put out by Geneon. They shut down after releasing just two volumes. Funimation got the rights to it in a giant company-wide library deal, but I guess it sold too poorly for them to acquire the second season.

What's interesting is that RetroCrush's stream is a remaster rather than just dumping DVD rips.

It has not yet been dubbed. It's a mistake either from RetroCrush's side or ANN's side.

I love how Ippo got on a lot of streaming services after I bought the Blu-Rays. Still, if this leads to Sentai releasing New Challenger and Rising (or even better, someone making a new season since it’s not like they’re wanting for manga to adapt) I won’t complain.

Why is it that every release I see of Saiunkoku Monogatari is a dub? Why are you depriving anime viewers of the chance to hear the excellent Kuwashima Houko in one of her finest roles?

When the Geneon release came out, the English track referred to Shurrei as "Shurrei Hong" using the Chinese word for her name, rather than "Kou Shurrei" as in the Japanese track. Apparently there were concerns that Western audiences could not hear the difference in pronunciation between the two voicings of "kou" that were used to name different clans. I couldn't listen for more than a few minutes, since every character on screen routinely uses "Kou Shurrei" all the time to refer to her, yet the English subtitles (and English track) used "Hong." It was absurdly jarring.

I watched all 78 episodes of Saiunkoku Monogatari in subtitles and never had a problem with these names.

Ryoko's Case Files is an amusing little item. Still couldn't give it more than a 6/10 at MAL. It gets better when it abandons the monster-of-the-week format and provides a bit more plot. Love the OP with its little homage to the Bond openers by Maurice Binder. I'm not a leg guy, but I might make an exception in Ryoko's case.

Wait, wasn't this news already posted in January? Does this mean RetroCrush isn't streaming anything new in February (barring Sonic the Hedgehog)? I don't get it.
