That 2017 film mentioned, based off Valerian et Laureline, was also directed by Luc Besson.

If I'd have discovered Valérian et Laureline in the 1980s instead of Urusei Yatsura I probably would be into bandes desinées instead of manga and I'm sure my French literacy would be farther along than my kanji literacy.
Go with God, Mézières-sensei.

One of the most influential artists of bande dessinée has passed away.
R.I.P. Mézières.

I discovered bandes dessinées earlier than manga, in the mid-eighties, when I was in elementary school and Valérian et Laureline was one of my first bédés I rented from a library. I loved the few volumes I got my hands on. The world building and art were sublime and made me dream of adventures in a galaxy far away. A few years later I watched a lot of anime on TV, one was Urusei Yatsura, which was also one of the very first manga I got.

Sad news, I'm a huge fan of Valerian. I'll be passing the word along about M. Jean-Claude Mézières.
