First off good on ANN for posting both sides, 2nd I think its a good thing that the con decided to distance itself from the alleged individual until things sort themselves out.
Lastly I completely disagree with any boycott movement towards the con or its organizers, even more so with the steps taken by the convention at this time. I've been to this convention twice, the 2nd time being when it moved to the Mesa convention center, last time being either 2015 or 2016. |

Completely agree. Usually the posts for these things come off as a lot more one-sided, so this is nice for a change. But yeah, I've been to the con once back in 2016 as well. Was lovely. Folks trying to cancel (boycott) the con over a single person is absolutely asinine. The convention largely has nothing to do with the singular individual in question and is something that brings joy to a good number of people. Going after the places connected to the guy sounds more like spitefulness rather than any remote form of justice (justice, in the event the guy is actually guilty). |

I would disagree. It depends on the circumstances. In a generalized sense if a con does not take steps to remove such a person, handle such situations, sweep things under the rug, etc then yea, boycott them. If there is such an issue in some capacity and the con does nothing to fix it then yes that con does have a lot to do with the situation by condoning it, enabling it, etc. They are not responsible for an individuals actions, but if such actions come to light and they do nothing then boycotting them is perfectly reasonable and hardly asinine. Whether or not many others get joy from the event if the people running it allow or condone such conduct then they do not deserve to profit from others enjoyment. Again, I'm just speaking in a general sense with the idea of a con knowing such events occurred and did nothing to rectify it or remove the person involved. |
