Going off of the little bit he had with Kyo at the start of the trailer, my guess is more that SNK is going more for "K9999? What are you talking about? He's ALWAYS been Krohnen!", and is simply retconning this legally distinct version as the one that's always been around. Yeah, this guy's history is a mess, isn't it? It'd be funny if SNK will even go as far as renaming K9999 to Krohnen is they ever re-release KOF 2001 in a new form (i.e. not just using the arcade rom). Honestly, I'm most shocked that they didn't just go with Nameless instead, but I'm glad to see this forsaken Tetsuo ripoff be given new life. |

Masayuki Uemura: RIP. And thank you for your countless contributions to the gaming industry. I did not know of Uemura-san until his passing, but I am glad I do now as he was a true pioneer.
VGA: Ironically, we all complain about how no one cares about the awards and "Where are the trailers & announcements?!" But this year, the focus really was on the trailers and announcements rather than awards. There were points where I said "Wait, when was the last time we saw an award?" It was easy to forget that it was supposed to be an awards show. Also, unfortunate that Geoff Keighley's strong opening statement is completely deflated because he refused to call out Activision-Blizzard by name even though we all knew who he was talking about. Sonic 2 / Frontiers: Sonic 2 trailer looks like a of fun! Now that we got the set-up out of the way with the first movie, this one is now allowed to lean into more direct video game references and imagery. But sadly, still largely stuck in the real world instead of getting more Zones. Biggest surprise for me though was not hearing Idris Elba's iconic accent come out of Knuckles. As for Frontiers, it has now been confirmed that all those wide vista shots were hinting at the game getting the Mario Odyssey / open world treatment. Persona 4 Ultimax: I get to play as best Persona girl Elizabeth again! Low tier life forever! Silent Hill: I was unreasonably happy to see & hear Guillermo del Toro say he wants another one. As for Yakushi: Slitterhead, looks good but I wanted it to be Silent Hill. Wonder Woman: Pretty awesome to see she is going to get the AAA game treatment. I imagine it is going to be heavily inspired by God of War. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League: What cracks me up about this game is that for the longest time, game devs have talked about the difficulties in translating the JL's power set into a game. Seems the answer is to not make them playable characters, but bosses instead! KOF XV: Thank you for playing into what we all know. There have been countless golden memes and jokes since the announcement. KOF Land is on a hype high between this reveal and next week's beta test with a new set of 8 to test drive. And this time we get Terry! Cuphead DLC: This trailer was amazing. I loved it. Guilty Gear StrIVe: Myself and many others are very happy that Baiken is next on the list; she is gonna thrive in StrIVe. Based on earlier leaks, my hopes were built up for Jam but I guess she is gonna be saved for Season 2. Also, thank you for giving Hungry Clicker a shoutout cause the guy is an insanely refined talent. ASW Rollback: Very happy for the BlazBlue fans around the world because they deserve it. As I understand it, it is much easier & less expensive to retrofit rollback on sprites VS 3D models which is why DBFZ & GBVS will not be getting rollback unless they get sequels. Overall, VGA gonna VGA, but I have to admit that this year I got a lot of things I wanted so it was definitely a bountiful Video Game Christmas for me. |

I had a very bad week and I felt that maybe if I wacthed the Game Awards maybe it could gave me something to be excited and help me to move on at least a bit, and it some ways it did because I fell asleep while watching it. Though there were some interesting reveals.
Masayuki Uemura: my parents gave me a Famiclone as kid, which was basically a Family Computer so I owe a lot to Mr. Uemura. Super Mario Bros. was probably the first true video game I played. Sonic 2: the first movie was surprisingly enjoyable, not the best but it was a fun family movie. The plot seems like a loose adaptation of Sonic 2 and 3. I wonder if Amy would appear in a hypothetical Sonic 3. Wonder Woman: I don't know which type of game this is going to be, but a WW hack and slash would be amazing. Kind of funny that WW is getting a high budget game but Superman don't. KOF XV: Krohnen was a surprise, K9999 is a fan favourite with some players, but his resemblance to Tetsuo and the fact that he was created by Eolith always made his return very unlikely. Also, his appearance gives more credibility to a leak which unfortunately means that Kim will probably skip the main game for the first time. |

Underappreciated game of the year: Caligula Effect 2, one of the most well-written Persona-likes with an excellent battle system and a main cast of mostly adults with adult concerns - highlights include a grandmother and a transmasculine enby.

-Uemura: What a legend.
-VGAs: They are what they are: a boring, tedious slog made so Geoff Keighley can feel important while sucking up to the worst elements of the games industry. The event isn't even any fun, it has no energy or pomp to it, just a rush to pump out trailers and blow through the awards. The funny thing about that token anti-harassment statement Keighley made is that it was more directed at the gaming COMMUNITY, than the companies everyone is railing against right now. And it was made even worse by a reveal trailer for a game made by Quantic Dream. So yeah, screw the VGAs and screw Keighley, the bootlicker. If anything, Nintendo being absent was what the show deserved because why taint something Zelda by being associated with that show? -Sonic: Idris Elba claimed he would not be doing a sexy voice for Knuckles. Clearly he failed. Frontiers is a neat idea, but a lot of Sonic games have had neat ideas with terrible execution -Star Trek: Resurgence -DC: It's about time Wonder Woman got a damn game. From what I heard it'll basically be Shadow of Mordor with a Wonder Woman skin, even having the Nemesis System. Suicide Squad looks neat. |

I was kinda relieved that I only watched the pre-show before I left to go hang with the fam, which meant I got to come back later and just click through whatever looked cool to me. Forspoken wasn’t something that grabbed me the last time we saw a big trailer for it, but now that we’ve seen more of the lore, I’m in! Also, I’m excited, confused, and worried about the Senua footage we saw; the first game was such a thoughtful, intimate story, and I worry it’s losing its identity by pursuing something closer to God of War. But if nothing else, HZD has great music, so I always appreciate a live orchestra being used for good taste.

No mention that It Takes Two --technically an indie game published by EA-- in a semi-upset actually won the GOTY Award? (Or that they couldn't even trademark the name of the game because Take-Two Interactive sued them?) Or that Forza Horizon 5 couldn't even be included in the GOTY nomination because of the timing of VGA voting - and yet it won the most awards? Or talking about voting, that a game that only officially got released won the People's Choice award?

Curious what this means? Since the thing that turned me off to Shadow Of War was the story.
That really shouldn’t bother anyone at this point nor should it surprise anyone since Sonic stages even the earlier ones do have some real world inspired locales.
You never saw the Wire back in the day? Dude is pretty capable of hiding his accent.
Because most Superman games have a bad tendency of either being below average or flat out sucking. That and WW has never had her own video game unlike Superman & Batman |

Halo The Live Action Series, coming soon to be pirated from everywhere else BUT Paramount+ in 2022.
I don't know how, but if Monolith can manage to employ the Nemesis system into a Wonder Woman game I am sold. I need the Nemesis system in every game. |

I'm happy when games (or anything else I like) win awards but I gave up watching award shows in general years ago, mainly because they're always long and boring but I also don't like when the presenters get poli... I mean, "go off-topic".
Of course, I mainly buy games a year or two later off the bargain rack at Walmart (which is becoming less of a thing that exists in Walmarts now) or from thrift stores so I rarely have any experience playing games before they win or lose awards so that also contributes to my apathy towards the VGA. Maybe Sonic Frontiers will be great but I admit I'm really skeptical about whether an open world Sonic game would be anywhere near as good as a linear Sonic game with intricately-designed discrete levels where you usually have multiple paths but not the ability to wander completely off the part of the map where your current objective is. Even Sonic Adventure 2 did away with the (by the standards of the time) "open" hub worlds of the first game because they were mostly dead space without much to do, although, yes, obviously open world game design has come a long way in 22 years. |

Wonder Woman's thing, though, is that she doesn't really keep a Rogues Gallery that often, because she tends to try to "end" that kind of stuff, usually by befriending her enemies. If anything, maybe Monolith will try to keep that aspect intact & turns the Nemesis system into a sort of a system where Wondy slowly builds up a cadre of rivals-turned-allies over the course of the game. That would actually be kind of neat. |

Did you mean to type beheading her enemies? Wondy's generally the one out of the DC trinity that has no issues killing her villains. That being said, I'll agree she's always had a very weak rogues gallery. She's best when they lean into her mythology routes and she's fighting Greek gods and monsters, but that's not exactly unique territory for video games so who knows what they'll do. |

Or they could do the thing where she keeps turning them in and then they break out with some new abilities. Rotating door prison and all that |

I don't have an XBox beyond the 360 or a PC powerful enough to run XBox One or Series X games though I do have two out of three of the older versions of those games on Steam but I gotta play them at low resolution. My most current gaming machine is a PS4 (not counting the Sega Genesis Mini). |
