This sounds like a cute movie! I hope it comes out in theaters in the US soon.

As some who was stationed in Hawaii, I'm always curious how accurate both the locations shown of Hawaii and Hula Dancing are. I learned a lot about Hula Dancing when i was stationed there.

Hopefully it's picked up by some streaming service soon.

Regarding the mascot issue: I disagree that a talking plushy necessarily can only be considered supernatural. I find because of how ubiquitous mascots are in anime, any deviation from reality they present can reasonably be overlooked. Maybe that might be true from the Japanese perspective but for the average Western, adult viewer its agreeably more distracting. I happen to like mascots (a lot) so I probably wouldn't even have noticed a talking doll is out of place in an otherwise completely realistic (but animated) setting.

The movie makes it clear that it's supernatural.
