Before people freak out, it's worth pointing out the Japanese Communist Party has an extremely slim chance of ever winning a general election and become the ruling party

honestly they just need pass a law where anime/manga can't have "children" looks in explicit looks/situation.

you can make cute characters without needing them looking seductive.

Sad to see that some people still struggle with being able to separate fiction and reality. I hope one day those people get the help they need so they can live a normal life. Censorship of fiction just needs to die already.

I don't see any contradiction and I will never expect to hear a good reason to sexualize children, even if those children are illustrations, and I will never buy that excuse of "oh but look, this prevent that predators can hurt actual children", like seeing some grown-ass dude drooling for some cartoon child sounds normal and not creepy at all. There's also those who compare this issue to violent video games, films, anime, etc, as if entertainment as such and sexual pleasure were the same thing.

It's pretty obvious some of the people commenting never read the article. Nowhere does the JCP call for censorship of anime/manga.
Quote:
it does perceive a link between fictional child pornography and broader cultural perceptions that normalize child sex abuse

I am very much opposed to censorship of fictional media, but I think there is a nuanced discussion to be had here about broader cultural impact. This is not a simple black or white issue.

Finally! It’s time to stop the sexualization of anime children. If western comics don’t do this, why do the Japanese?

Sorry, but that is a horrible idea. How do you specify that? You can't tell the difference between a 17 year old and an 18 year old by looking at a real person. In fact that difference could be a single day so obviously you can't. There is a reason that you'll see signs at places that sell alcohol saying they ID everyone under 35 or 40 when the age requirement is 21 (even if the employees don't actually follow that). It doesn't really matter what age you're trying to use as a cut off because it is never going to be possible to precisely determine age by visual inspection. The difference with a real person is that age can be proven.

I'm not against restrictions, but the restrictions need to be very clear and not highly subjective. I think the JCP's approach is actually quite sensible. Keep forcing this stuff into a lower profile, and creators will be less interested in producing it. I would love to see more anime/manga with lewd adult characters, or even starring adult characters in general, but I do not see enforcing rules based on a subjective interpretation as a reasonable solution.

They say they want to protect creative expression, but what does that mean? What counts as “allowable” creative freedom?

If you give someone an inch, they will take a mile.

Fictional sexual pleasure is just entertainment too. If Grand Theft Auto doesn't make my son a criminal, then neither should my daughter drawing nude drawings of Sailor Moon on the internet for consumption by like-minded degenerates.

Well it's not like the JCP will have that much of a voice in politics but it's always good when people understand that it's bad to restrict creative expressions.
More work should be put into preventing exploitation of real children, people who try to ban fictional work won't ever help solving the real problems, they'll just hurt the general freedom.

They literally said they are not interested in regulating it.

The material already has a pretty low profile. It's not as if Kinokuniya or other mainstream bookshops are selling this kind of material really. It's really quite easy for the general public to avoid that material. All of the places that sell doujinshi have their adult sections specifically marked as having adult material. I really don't understand how the general public would accidently see that stuff. They really have to go out of their way to come in contact with it.

Also considering real child pornography is banned everywhere with harsh penalties for creation, distribution and possession, that certainly never stopped the creation or trade of it, so the whole bit about restricting it further with mean less people producing it is bunkum really. Pushing it out of public view never means that the material won't be produced.

Putting that all aside, it always baffles me that there are occasionally big pushes to remove manga and doujinshi material of this kind, yet no one seems to be concerned with stuff like Junior Idol photo books and magazines, which use real child models. There's thousands of listings of this material on Yahoo! Auctions Japan and although it can be very hard to stumble upon it in book shops, it's most certainly there.

That literally does not mean anything. Because the banning of fictional characters, any age, in sexual situations is regulation at the heart of it. Once again, give an inch and they will take a mile.
