Like, at best you could copyright the usage of those colours (like how Cadbury copyrighted it's purple colour, I believe) but the actual patterns are so generic. I mean, I've used a box pattern in art so many times, doesn't mean I have ownership of it.

Tanjiro's patterns has squares AND rectangles (i mean a square is an equilateral rectangle)
but still, I never noticed that the rectangles differed, I might need a zoom up of it (and were the animators consistent???) |

Those knockoff god cards are everywhere! But anyway. I can understand Shueisha being ticked about these simple patterns being used in merch like masks and handkerchiefs and all the other stuff. I mean, I live in Tokyo, and non-Kimetsu merch using this pattern is everywhere. Literally EVERYWHERE. Even at the mom-and-pop stores. But on the other hand, it's such a simple pattern. Allowing this would be bad enough, but it would make way for other crazy pattern trademarks (i.e. Where's Waldo/Wally trademarking red and white stripes...) |

If they wanted to trademark it, they should have picked a more original design than black and green boxes.
