I don't expect it to win anything, but congrats on the nomination nevertheless.

I'm legit gonna eat the plastic RX78 model I'm working on right now if this turns out to be deserving of any accolades beyond what Spice & Wolf's jaunts into VR accomplished. From what I've seen in the past, "nominating" something at a festival, depending on the organisation, is mainly just a matter of checking off boxes of criteria. If you're the only project in a specific, singular category.... then congrats, you don't have any competition. This is making me start to wonder if this is why they chose to have some sort of tie to VR rather than make a normal OVA.

Mind you, I want this to knock my socks off and I want top-shelf Gundam VR experiences, I just think that BamCo needs to figure out what the hell a fun Gundam game and a cool Gundam movie look like first, before they even dare try and tread where Spice & Wolf and Tokyo Chronos have only been "neat, I guess" so far.

No, it plays into their global strategy of getting the IP more recognizable (as Producer Ogata outlined in many interviews). Basically, they're ceding "creative control" to others for a change. This is why we're getting both this and Requiem. While Requiem has almost entirely full creative control to outsiders, the story for this VR is still helmed by Bandai (Unicorn staff, nonetheless). It's a small start.

Even if this fails, it will still be a lesson to learn from future endeavors in this field. What a lot of people fail to take into account is the fact that not everything has to be a huge success. They have to have their low points, otherwise, how else are they going to learn? Plus, fans are putting entirely too high of expectations on this release right out the gate, so it's a bit unfair on them that they're probably going to slam this as being full of "suckitude."

Although anytime there's an update on this project or Requiem, there's a slew of comments moaning about the lack of updates on Hathaway, so it definitely starts painting a fandom that sounds like entitled crybabies for a lot of things (they're the same ones screaming DEI over Requiem character appearances and the fact that there is a larger women in Phantom here).

These entries aren't going to be for everyone anymore, most definitely the older hardcore fans.
