Per Sublime's website, volume 8 is set to come out in July after being pushed back from March. It's unfortunate that the release date got moved with that vol 7 cliffhanger being what it was, but it's still less than a year between volumes, so I'll take it.

And it really is a shame that this series has been languishing in obscurity - convincing people to give it a try is the hardest part, because the story speaks for itself.

I was surprised at how well the revelation about Hiyakawa worked to explain (though not excuse!) a lot of the sketchier things he did to Mikado earlier in the series, along with seemingly-unrelated personal quirks (food issues, the borderline rude insistence on always being paid no matter the outcome of his work) that made perfect sense as someone who had grown up being treated as a “communal resource” by the people raising him.

Another thing I liked was the lack of a “spiritual canon” for the series to follow. Everyone in the series is just muddling around with a mix of things they’ve picked up from life experience and experiments based on things like Internet forums or pop culture. They don’t get to consult an ancient tome of knowledge or draw a cool-looking array after they’ve pinpointed the right thing to do.

I'm starting to think I should just bite the bullet and start the manga. I was gonna wait for the anime, but there's been no info since it was announced back in December so it probably won't come out for a while.

This series seems really good though, I'm excited to read it.
