The schedule: https://myanimelist.net/anime/season
Ultraman S2 might air this season, who knows? Would be nice. The season needs all the help it can get and there are no promising original shows I could spot.

Beastars Who knows how much S2 will adapt. The last one rushed it but also got through the least good part of the manga. Until the final and longest arc of the manga came and managed to derail all the momentum it had. The series even lacks any form of meaningful resolution. The material this season could do is the juiciest part of the manga but it is cushioned by 2 stale buns. I will likely stop with the anime after S2 if more is announced even if this season works out.

Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season is currently listed with 16 eps so there will clearly be a Part 2 down the line. MAPPA did a very good job this far so the studio change worked out. It looks closer to the manga, the one scene of violence so far was grizzlier than the neutered TV cuts by Wit and the limited (for now) CG is well done. And what an OP! No complaints so far but there will soon be blowback to the “new direction” and likely a loud one. 9/10

Vladlove debut it´s pilot last month on YouTube. I would love to report that Mamoru Oshii got his groove back but that isn´t the case. He is also only one of the 2 directors and IG is only the secondary studio on the show. This vampire school girls comedy simply isn´t working regardless of who made it. 5?/10

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time will be something I can finally put behind me and Natsume Yuujinchou will get a movie but I long checked out. 2 forever delayed Sailor Moon Crystal films will come out and Gintama ends, again. u]Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi[/u] should be more like it. It´s based on the 1979 TV film that can´t be adapted due to having a highly different continuity at this point. There will also be a new compilation film for both S1&2 at once but who cares.
More AoT and Star Blazers save this season but it is still a wasteland. Winter seasons tend to be stale, so whatever. The spring season will be better.

However, for a slapstick, there's a distinct lack of jokes

Yeah Vladlove was a comedy without joke, and that just doesn't work. The kink of wanting to give blood also seems strange, has she never heard of knife or needle? Seems like it'd be easy to lose more blood if that's what she'd want to do. Shame about Oshii, but this is definitely not worth watching just for his name alone.

I honestly can't wait to be the only person going to bat for Vladlove.

But I despise the fact that Oshii criticizing the industry at all (after, yknow, no production committee would approve a single one of his pitches for a whole decade, and him being one of several creators speaking out about this) has painted a target on his back for people to laugh about how "out of touch" he is. Actually learn about him a bit.

I just think its ironic how he criticized modern anime for being bland and safe and then puts out Vlad Love, which I found to be incredibly bland and safe. The only unique thing about it that separates from the dozens of girls fanservice comedies we get every year is the artstyle, which, and I know this is just my personal taste, is actually worse than the average cute girls comedy show.

I am rather delighted Mamoru Oshii's big return to anime is Oshii Idiot Comedy Mode. You know what to expect from Oshii, but you also never know what to expect from Oshii.

(And here's a word for the show's other director, Junji Nishimura, who directed and wrote a fair bit of Simoun)

Such is the case with Vladlove, directed by the highly acclaimed Mamoru Oshii, who complained at its premiere event that all anime these days is bland and safe.

Oh wow, I missed that part. That makes the show extra eyeroll-worthy - a creator complains about this, and then makes an over-the-top fanservicey comedy with all the usual tropes and copious innuendo and sexiness, because that's definitely very bold and original and trailblazing! Wow!

(Also see: Under the Dog, where the same complaint was followed up by a completely paint-by-the-numbers action show.)

Anyway, I usually like Oshii but I guess he's completed his transformation into pervy old man who can't get on with the times.

That can't be true, you'd have to lack any sense of self awareness to say that and put out an anime like vladlove which would have felt cliche 20 years ago. Maybe he's going for some subversion of expectation and everything will radically change.

Vladlove-I watched for a few minutes then started skipping ahead. I didn't laugh once. It seemed like it was trying to hard to be... something.

After Yamakan said essentially the same thing when he made Fractale, yes, yes, that is exactly what I'd expect grumpy old men do whenever they loudly declare they will revolutionize anime...

watched the mushoku tensei preview, they kept all the sexual stuff, they also show how much of a horrible person the mc was before reincarnating. i am expecting a lot of negative reviews and in a season with too many isekai shows, i am also expecting for it not to qualify for review sites.

which is a shame because the becoming a better person part of the show is good and it was given twice as much budget as expected which means it will still be one of the best isekai.

I think there are actually more idol shows (including an idol spinoff of a non-idol franchise) this season than isekai. It's probably neither here nor there, but it is kind of interesting.

Aside from those 4 you mentioned and Log Horizon, what shows are you including as isekai? There are other LN fantasy shows airing, but it doesn’t seem like those are isekai from their descriptions.

I also got stupidly hung up on the fact that Toriko, who clearly knows what she's doing, wore high heels to go traipsing around the Otherside; she had to have known that was a bad idea, and she definitely was planning on going there when she went to find Sorao.

I haven’t seen this episode yet, but in the novel it’s clear that Toriko’s encounter with Sorawo in the university cafeteria was partly by chance, and she was so excited at the prospect of exploring the Otherside with her new friend that she goes off without thinking. She even remarks that it was silly not to stop and change clothes once they get there.

It’s a part of her character to be a little heedless this way.

otherside picnic, boonies, redo of healer, hidden dungeon.

while making this list, i indeed noticed the huge amount of idol shows.
also, its very difficult to separate isekai from fantasy nowadays, especially because some isekai disguissed themselves as fantasy shows but in some point we learn isekaied people do exist, and yet one of the ones i am counting as isekai is actually a time travel story, completely disguised as an isekai.
