What is that four legged animal in Excel Saga? It really seems like a cat, but it is referred to as dog. Of course only Excel calls it a dog, and I don’t think it wise to rely on her perception.
By the way I think this is the funniest anime show I have seen. Granted I haven’t seen much. I have only seen episodes 1 - 5. I really like the sight gags, particularly the letter boxed format on the jungle scenes in the “B” Action move episode. I nearly fell on the floor laughing near the end when Excel and Hyatt were reunited and the half of the scene Excel was on was still letter boxed. I cringe every time there is some romantic scene with Hyatt. All I can think is necrophilia. After all she is mostly dead. When watching the first episode, I was total confused during the opening sequence as to why this brunette was coughing like she was going to die before the start of the show. Finally, does Excel Saga remind you of Animaniacs? Maybe it is just the sight gags and jokes in the end credits that make me think this. |

Well, it be a dog.
And it's a distant relative of Leki (They look very similar to me)  .
Menchi  It would be better if I had a different picture of Menchi, but I couldn't find one.

I love the Menchi episodes. They are so sad. If only Menchi had the same powers as Leki life would be so much easier for him. I wish Panda in Daicon Brothers had as much of a personality.

The full version of the song is even funnier. Menchi sings two verses then he/she goes off into the frantic frenzy and is just making noise (probably because it is getting chased by Excel during the song). Which BTW, does anybody whether Menchi is male or female? |

Ugh, those episodes were horrid and unfunny. I like Menchi and all (I even bought a plushie of her!), but she's a running gag, not meant to be a character of focus. If only they had done some episodes on what the Puuchus do in their free time. And yeah, Menchi's a dog. Thus the barking, the constant dog-like tail wag, the dog whimpering, dog references involving her, etc. Not too difficult to figure out. |

Menchi is female. Several characters throughout Excel Saga mention that fact specifically. -Murph |

I just came across an interesting site, somebody is taking donations to save Menchi:
Save Menchi! The site is asking for $50,000 to save the pooch. While it looks like they've actually collected $14.23, there are other jokes if you click on the 'Make a Donation' button or on the 'Donate' link at the bottom. Some other fun stuff is the 'Recipe' section. And yes I agree with everyone else, Menchi is a dog, female, and possibly edible (it says so on the Excel box). ETA: I was doing a search on Menchi because I think I've decided to name my new puppy Menchi. Although I'll try real hard not to eat him.

Whoever came up with the entire website was just brilliant but the above was just absolutely over the top hilarious! I'm looking forward to this more and more. I hope that ES doesn't disappoint. Thank you for finding this site, undeadben! |
