Both of the light novels The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent and A Tale of the Secret Saint use the English word "saint" in the title. The term is also used throughout both books to describe the main character. What I would like to know is:

1. What Japanese words or phrases are being translated as "saint"?

2. What sort of person or creature is brought to mind by a native Japanese speaker on seeing those words or phrases?

I'm not familiar with either series, but both have 聖女 in the title. 聖人 would probably also be translated as "saint".

Not Japanese either, but looking up 聖女 in the Japanese dictionary Weblio has definitions like: a holy woman, a woman who has devoted her life to religious matters, a virtuous woman.
Maybe compared to a shrine maiden, a shrine maiden serves the god when attending to the god's shrine, but a saint serves the god anywhere because they have the god in them? This is pure speculation though.
