It's Tachi and Yamato focused for no reason other merchandise ones. Why are they the ones that experience this? Even if the movie offered a handwave reason like "Omegamon drains it faster", but given what is said, why isn't Jou also going through this. Compared to Taichi and Yamato, he actually has a career and is a year older. So it's a problem that primarily only effects them and only Koushiro and Takeru know outside of them.

I just don't know why they keep doing this Digimon become separated from the kids over and over. Especially since the 02 finale is still canon. Yet they still can't bridge the epilogue and these movies.

They weren't though; if you look at the stills in the credits, all of the "older" kids are not pictured with their Digimon, while Takeru, Hikari, and the rest of the 02 cast are. It's just they aren't Tai and Matt, so their experiences don't matter.

I honestly didn't like this movie and don't think it added anything at all to Adventure. The whole concept of an end date is just dumb(even Gennai pops in for all of a minute to basically be like "Yup, it's true, that's how it's always worked".) and I assume was made up just to have that last, sad 10 minutes of film plot.

Actually the first of the Adventure 01 Digidestined to experience it was Sora. You can see this just before the climax as her digivice has turned to stone and Biyomon is no longer with her.

Also not sure what the dislike the reviewer had for Tri was but this cannonically takes place after Tri as you can clearly see Meicoomon in a shot with Meiko in the Climax as well. So...there's that.

This made me remember something so I went and checked it out. In the opening sequence while Butter-Fly is playing there's a blink-and-you-miss-it shot where we can see a digivice already with the timer on next to a window and under a flower vase, and in the few scenes with Sora we can see that that is her room.

For my part I really liked the movie overall. It's a shame it doesn't focus on the whole cast but that's also what happens in the Omegamon movie so it's not surprising.
If anyone cares about continuity at this point, spoiler[a couple of things were retconned but this movie could easily be placed before the 02 epilogue, at the end of the movie they even say that they will meet again for sure, so a future where everyone has their digimon back (and every person on the world has their own) is still possible.]

Always nice to see others unafraid to point out the irony of a nostalgia bait movie about letting go of the past.

While I personally really dislike the main theme of the whole movie for a lot of the reasons in the review, I'd be lying if I said I didn't still enjoy it. I am a huge sucker for this sort of angst and sadness, and I thought Tai and Matt were handled really well. It is a shame about characters like Sora or Mimi who really didn't do much of anything, but I tend to be willing to give a movie a pass on this sort of thing as trying to cram in not just the original 8 but also 02's additional 4 is a LOT of characters for a short amount of time. Considering that I'm happy we got at least decent stuff from 2/3rds of them.

But I admit I kind of had to shut my brain off when watching it in order to enjoy it. If I think about it in terms of the larger Adventure picture, it kind of angers me, to be honest. It really feels counter to a lot of previous themes, regardless of whether or not the 02 epilogue is still canon. But if I just think of it as a random movie that happens to feature some characters I like, then I appreciate it a lot more.

It is ALWAYS "you have to let go" but they never give a satisfying reason reason for it other than "just cause".I also didn't like how the Digimon's just accepted it; and barely had emotions beside "we gotta fight".

The message of, "even with loss of something/someone important you can still move forward the next day" is a good one(even though they barely spent any time on that). But, spending your movie/t.v. series/franchise showing how amazing your world is just to say "but what's really COOL, is the REAL WORLD" always feels disingenuous.
I mean in "Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You" Ash wakes up in a reality similar to our own and all I could think is "that sucks". I can't wait for whenever Pokemon ends and they say "We feel Pokemon was never about the 800+ Pokemon, lands, characters, etc., it has always been about Ash growing up".

My wife and I have said plenty of times if the opportunity ever came up we'd nope the fudge outta this reality so quick.

Part of the reason I want to watch with the dub (beyond the obvious nostalgia) spoiler[is to hear Erika Harlacher play a villain.]

I'm probably one of the very VERY FEW to actually enjoy the Digimon Adventure tri. sextuple as a whole. Despite Sora and Kari getting the short-end of the DigiDestined character development straw, Meiko and Meicoomon not living up to their potential in the overall story, the 02 cast being relegated to the background (although its strange that their season is getting some love years later when the writing team bungled their story) and the animation quality had highs and lows as it went along, I still had a great time with it. Reunion was a great start to the series and reintroduction to the DigiDestined in heartwarming fashion; Determination gave us the best Mimi and Joe development with a sick plot twist towards the end; Confession is probably the best in ramping up the stakes midway through its story and making us worry for the DigiDestined and their partners we've followed for so long; Loss definitely messed up Sora's character and went the wrong way in establishing Gennai's new character direction. Coexistence is the second best and follows up on the previous film's exploration of Meicoomon and even more ramping up the tension. Future is a bit of a middling conclusion to the sextuple but from what I'm hearing in this review of Last Evolution Kizuna, it might be not so bad in comparison. If I see this on physical shelves, I'll buy it and lower my expectations for what's about to be unleashed when I watch it.

As another that enjoyed Tri, my take away is that Kizuna's first 80% is better. The latter 20% stumbles a bit and leaves something to be desired but it's still as a total product better. So i wouldn't say lower your expectations especially if you enjoyed Tri.

For those who are wandering the 02 ending is still cannon. This interview kind of explains the creators thoughts behind the movie

I just saw this video and thought I should share it here, though this looked a little clickbaity it had some very interesting ideas about the themes of the movie that made me apreciate it in some new ways (continuity with 02 aside): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK3eLxFclm4

On one hand, I get why this is such a Tai/Matt story. On the other hand (and this is where I note I need to go back and finish Tri), it sucks that this is the last ride with these guys and Sora, Joe and Mimi are all but MIA. The closest we get to an old school throwdown is in the beginning.

And speaking of old school, I know why they can't use the old music, but there were times when I was yearning for some of that old score, maybe a little "Hey Digimon" in that opening scene.

I was not expecting this to be the sequel to the GOAT, Bokura no War Game. They brought back Team Bokura no War Game with Taichi, Yamato, Koushiro, and Takeru going into cyberspace. I loved the callbacks to the movie. The computer screens appearing from above in cyberspace. When Omegamon was going for the finishing blow on Eosmon, they showed the exact same scenes from the movie with Yamato and Taichi yelling. Even with Eosmon escaping through the exit. Glad they kept Koushiro's obsession with Oolong tea until the very end. But before that... They brought back Bolero from the movie when it didn't even play in tri and they did Greymon vs Parrotmon Part 2. I know they wanted to show us Greymon vs Parrotmon Part 2, but Parrotmon is a Perfect level. They should have went into MetalGreymon sooner for the 1 on 1 fight. So its currently July 2010 (3 months after the "To Sora" prequel). Menoa met Morphomon when she was 9 and it disappeared when she was 14, which was 8 years ago. So Menoa had a digimon in 1997, but she's currently 22 like Taichi. What? Oh, and during the OP with Butter-Fly playing, I saw the book on Eos and knew it would be important later on. lol Anyway, the sakuga in the opening part of the movie was amazing. Best in the series since Hosoda. I love how the characters look how they did back in Adventure. Yamato looks like Yamato unlike in tri. They redeemed Angewomon after ruining her in tri. Thank you. This is the best looking Sora in the series. So beautiful. Taichi had on some Ghost in the Shell looking goggles, which was cool as fock. They brought back the old shinka scenes and it looked amazing. I cried when Agumon and Gabumon vanished. Interestingly enough, before the opening song played, Agumon and Gabumon said "And they're gone." after Taichi and Yamato left. The new shinka forms were cool as fock. Hearing Butter-Fly during the beginning... I wish Koji Wada was able to see this movie. The ED song reminded me of One Punch Man ED 1. Also, nice that Hiroaki Hirata did the narration at the end.

Eight years after the end of Digimon Adventure 02

It takes place 5 years after tri. in 2010 (July). Just because you have an issue with tri. (which you clearly seem to in the review) doesn't mean you get to leave it out.
=======

Also, they should have made a new timeline (as confirmed in the games with Ryo) set after Bokura no War Game. It was annoying seeing people bring up 02 because the staff kept teasing them in tri. then had to show them in this movie. They wouldn't have to do that if they had just started fresh when they decided to focus on the original Chosen Children. Toei had no problem ignoring the anime stuff in Dragon Ball Z with Kami to Kami taking place in the manga canon. The Digimon staff should have followed suit.
