I hope the author can finish Joshishougakusei on his own terms and not because cancellations.
It's an absurd and hillarious manga.

Nope, it ended last year.

Would Magical Girl count as loli? Or would it have to border hentai to be an issue?

I pretty much know what the comments are going to say, but l still feel bad about censorship.

The cries of "censorship!" are completely exaggerated. From the sounds of it, the market for lolicon is shrinking. Fewer people are comfortable with it or buying it. A cultural shift isn't censorship, it's just something that happens within societies, for better or worse.

(Although, I do say that lolicon going out of fashion is 100% for better)

I hope you are not saying that something has to be popular in order for platforms to carry it.

And of course cries of censorship are overblown until it's your favorite genre that's getting targeted. Many of the light novels getting pulled off Kindle aren't even lolicon.

I just clicked because it said there were 15 comments. Did things go south that quickly? :/

I started reading this out of curiosity but dropped it because it was just a bit too creepy for me. Still, I don't want its ilk to disappear for these reasons.

The complaints aren't so much about a shrinking market (it's probably as big as it ever was. Read: small but constant) as active censorship/rejection from platforms.
The Amazon thing specifically is pretty widespread and just last week we got a ton of writers surprised that their works were removed, among which was No Game No Life which is anything but a flop.

They can publish it on personal websites easily. All subject matter should be protected to exist, but don't be surprised when your niche/socially unacceptable fetish doesn't have a place in mainstream print markets.

The market is only seems to be shrinking because external pressure from regulators and retailers who control the majority have forcibly removed/banned them aka censorship. If this were a truly free market, the size would've remained as it was. There's zero cost in retailers and app stores carrying this author's manga and app, nor would Amazon have banned various non-hentai manga and LNs from the publishers in the US recently, which include random volumes in a series already published. Every event cited in the article and experienced by the author is censorship

Furthermore, lolicon is now being conflated with minors, which is totally subjective of course, but that slippery slope is something anyone would've seen coming a mile away. Patreon is using this reason to ban most anime styled characters even with big boobs and big hips, for which they also monitor offsite content. Why? Because Patreon's reviewers have stated that the face appears young enough to be a minor

I see this argument being used to police BL as well. We need to stand up for all fictional depiction without marginalizing them, or we can just drop the pretense that we value free expression.
