Lol, that's a blast from the past - friends haven't used the word "Sexiled" since a couple decades ago
But of course, we had a different meaning for it

It's kind of a bewildering localization choice, in my opinion. I seem to recall that the abbreviated form of the original Japanese title translates to something more along the lines of "Because I'm a Woman".
At any rate, I really enjoyed the first volume, and I will definitely be picking up the second.

I had a lot of fun reading both volumes, and even though I'm a guy I could relate to some of the things they went through. My only gripe with it was that it didn't really have a single non-asshole male in either volume that were in more than a cameo. Overall would maybe give it a B or B+.
(Don't really know how the reviewer gave it an overall A even though giving it a B for art. Do they not average the scores, or does one have more weight or are there unshown categories?)

In a light novel especially, I would expect the story to be weighed more than the art.

I enjoyed reading through the first novel and thought the characters were fun. Though I slightly disagree about the dialogue being "witty". more often than not I found it to be pretty memey and eye-rolling, but it didn't ruin my experience reading though.

Pretty sure there's no formula, for any of the reviewers, and the "overall" score is assigned as subjectively as any of the others.

Basically true, but each of us has personal guidelines. For instance, for me:
With LNs, I almost always rate the Overall the same as the writing, as any illustrations present are flavoring rather than an integral aspect.
With manga, where the art matters vastly more, I usually go with a rough average.
With anime,, each of writing, art, and music (and often voice work as well) are contributing factors, though I usually lean the grade towards writing when a tiebreaker is needed.

I wanted to believe your positive thoughts on this....but I just cannot stop shaking my head at the title. I mean my god these LN names now a days are just becoming ridiculous. I keep finding it harder and harder to give any a chance and take them seriously when it looks like a stoned teenager came up with the title while playing JRPG's.

Agreed. And I think the problem lies with the Japanese rights-holders insistence on having a say over the English translation of titles. Hey, I get you need to have some sort of veto over titles, but really, you should probably start listening to localizers a bit more. It's the same kind of dopey refusal (most of the time) to let localizers translate OP and ED lyrics. I just don't get it. Japanese rights holders can be incredibly annoying at times.

I believe in this case that the translator herself came up with the English title and it got approved through the Japanese side that way, although in general there are plenty of cases that you describe.
I have to admit that I'm in two minds about the word "Sexiled," since it's got another meaning in English, as one of the other commentors on here alluded to! On the other hand... it is funny. And I'm pretty sure it's one of the reasons the novel ended up massively selling better in English compared to Japanese.

How exactly? I am a bit worried as a native French speaker.

For reference what would a direct translation be of the Japanese title be that make this one, so much more funny that it would cause the difference in sales. Or is it the case that the English version was given a funny title well the Japanese version is just straight to the point what the series is about without being funny at all. Also, great review

Since it's somewhat related, another pet peeve of mine is when anime/manga just randomly uses English words to come up with a character name. The most notorious example I can think of was one of the villains in Madlax who was called Friday Monday. Oi.

I can't comment on the accuracy of the French words, but in Japanese, Laplace had a very affected way of speaking. For example, she would often say "yes" in English. Keeping it that way in an English translation would have lessened the impact of her speech patterns, so the translator went for French instead.

The literal translation of the title would have been "I Got Chased Out of My Party Because I'm a Woman, So I Formed the Ultimate Tag Team With the Legendary Witch." So, yeah, not as funny as a title that has "Sexiled" in it.

Thank you for your reply! If it is just that, I guess it will not bother me as much as if it were arbitrary, except when it is completely ridiculous like the random things Subaru yells in Re:Zero.
