I've been really hoping this would be either the ED or OP ever since I first saw the title, so I am SUPER happy right now.

Who knows about the anime but this I can get behind. We need more OPs and EDs that don´t rely on J-Pop or J-Rock.

Now I'm even more interested, because I love Queen and Freddie Mercury.

When I first heard of the Great Pretender anime, I was reminded of the song of the same name.
With Freddie Mercury's version of that song apparently making it in the anime, my suspicion has been confirmed. |

Art looks great, premise sounds interesting so will be following with interest. While Mr. Mercury puts in some great emphasis, a song and an expertly composed teaser video isn't enough to sell me a subscription yet...

Although I wonder if the NA release of this anime will keep the opening song? I know Speed Grapher and Eden of the East couldn't keep their opening songs for the NA release due to licensing issues.

Guess we’ll see this in 2021 thanks to Netflix...

I like stories about conman swindling people, but usually they are not about robbing the elderly. This show needs to be fantastic, if its going to clear this hurdle about stealing money from the elderly. |

I could see this working as an ED song but I don't see how it could work as an OP song given the tone.

Who's this Freddie Mercury guy? The Great Pretender was first performed by The Platters in 1955 with Tony Williams as the lead vocalist. One of the classics of the "doo-wop" era.

On Youtube right now the Platters version has 10 million views. Freddie Mercury’s cover has 26 million. https://youtu.be/mLRjFWDGs1g |

I don't care about numbers. It's a matter of paying tribute to the stars who made rock-and-roll the worldwide force it is today. But then I'm old enough to remember hearing the version by the Platters when I was growing up. At least I'm not suggesting they use Stan Freberg's version! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPnETiP8V9I |

Neat! And suggests a classier slower OP, unless that PV was actually it, which feels... eh?
I'm wondering the same. Though it's more a licensing cost than an actual issue, but not an insignificant one. Well they could opt to license the Platters original instead. Likely much cheaper, and the better version. |

Uh everything has comedy. Don’t be weird about it. |

How do you not know who Freddie Mercury is? Lead singer of the legendary band Queen. Created quite possibly the greatest song ever written "Bohemian Rhapsody". |
