The visuals look both cheap and expensive at the same time. Hm. That said, not bad. Not bad at all. SSS wasn´t a great way to end this canon and I am fairly optimistic for at least a 7/10. Arise and its film + manga were really good btw. I would have gone for more.
This team's 2019 Ultraman anime ain´t bad either. Last edited by residentgrigo on Mon Jan 27, 2020 4:08 am; edited 1 time in total |

The music has to be the least fitting thing for Ghost in the Shell. Nobuko Toda should be capable of composing for Cyberpunk due to her work on the Metal Gear series. Is Yoko Kanno retiring from being a composer or something?

Kanno's last credited anime soundtrack work was on Terror in Resonance back in 2014, besides composing for the live action film Our Little Sister in 2015 and the series Naotora: The Lady Warlord in 2017. Nothing else out of her since, no indication she's retiring either. |

The trailer music is badly mixed but the 2 Ultraman composers were hired again. They did their job fine. I ain´t afraid on that front. That said. The new poster is trash and Togusa doesn´t look 42, like at all. He is mostly human in canon. Boo.
The Russian artist (age 29) who did the new designs: https://www.artstation.com/kuvshinov_ilya This is his 2nd anime work after this also CG film: anime#21869 |

I honestly like visuals, they don't look bad to me at all, and Kuvshinov's beautiful art is very fitting.
Not to mention it is really great to know that we have good old cast back. That being said, I did only saw first movie, and first SAC series together with its Tachikoma specials, I think... |

Where in the timeline is this show apart of?
Also while the CG isn't bad, it is a bit bland. It could use more style. |

I'm not too happy about this, safe for motoko, the other chracter designs look very lackluster and much less polished. The only thing I have some hope for is the story, it's going to be hard to swallow such visuals, like, very hard, I only hope it pays off with the story, how it develops and is paced.
Stop with this CG, honestly, just, stop. If you want to make good anime in CG, take a look at Arc System Works and develop tools that make it look the part. Do it right. |

I'm pretty sure Yoko Kanno composed the music for the Emperor's coronation? I could be wrong.
I love Ghost in the Shell, so would be open to giving this one a go, but I have to say the aesthetics are a bit of a block for me. It's interesting how simple 2D animation can be so lively and characterful (when done well), but when rendered into 3D just looks so lifeless. There seemed to be a real disconnect between the dialogue and the characters' faces. Found some of the heavy black lines on some of the character's faces jarring, which gave them an odd half-and-half vibe. I guess if the writing is really good and the stories get going, then it won't matter so much, but ... Hmmm. |

This does look better than the first teaser trailer they showed. I like how they are doing what what did with Lupin and Stand by Me Doraemon, and having it look 3D rather than the god awful Polygon Pictures approach. Still I can't help but think how great it have been if it was traditionally animated.

It's everything thing I want, in a way I do not want it.
Mixed feeling I guess. |

Meh, I'm not feeling this at all. This looks like some video game and not an anime series. A crying shame considering that the original 1995 GITS movie is still one of the most beautifully hand-drawn films ever and pretty much the reason I became an anime fan in the first place... bring back 2D GITS goddamit
Also, this pretty much kills any expectations I had about the Blade Runner anime (same team minus Production IG.... yeah, not very optimistic about it). I really hope to be proven wrong though... |

I get a very meh vibe from this all around.
The 3D animation is clunky and doesn't move right, just like we discussed back when the previous trailer was shown. It has a lot of detail, which is nice, but alas it has the same sort of clunky feel where the motion isn't quite right that movies made with miniatures had in the early days too. It's odd. The technical detail is nice, the motion is not. And it seems like they're trying to obscure the poor motion of the models by moving the camera around instead. I guess it's a bit silly to call out anime for cost-saving tricks like that I feel that it really sticks out here. Music doesn't seem very appropriate either; it's a big step backwards compared to Kenji Kawai or Yoko Kanno. Character designs are OK I suppose. I prefer the old-school designs from the early films but These aren't too bad.
Bingo. |

NICE!! They're gettin' the S.A.C. OJ Band back together. Nothing Against ARISE's JP cast, but it was interesting to hear Maaya Sakamoto's take on Kusanagi.
Question is, who will provide the English Dub. Hopefully they'll get the S.A.C. English Dub Band back together. Who know. |
