Why not just cancel the theatrical release entirely and release it straight to streaming? That's what Warner Bros. did with Scoob! (their animated Scooby-Doo! reboot) recently after its theatrical release got cancelled.

Maybe they don't think the target audience for this movie is already into streaming services and not every parent would help them out setting up an account and buying online tickets.

I think it's an unrealistic expectation to expect every movie to be able to go straight to streaming during this pandemic when studios will risk losing a lot of money from not being able to play in theaters. Some things are just going to have to be delayed till things are better.

Also Precure movies are kind of made with a theater audience in mind. Like, there's light up toys given out at the showings made to interact with things going on in the story. Also big musical numbers where kids are encouraged to dance along. I realize these are things you can do at home too, but I'm sure to kids being at the theater part of the fun.
And I mean, this is Toei, who likes to stick to what they know especially when it comes to Precure.

I'm gonna call it now: The film will probably be released in October, serving as a double feature with the Healin Good PreCure movie. That's my assumption.
