Thanks for nothing, Funimation. Thanks for screwing Latin America for an exclusive time period that screws Crunchyroll's distribution.

Funimation is the worst company that put its foot in Latin America.

Darwin's Game is getting dubbed by Funimation, so that would be the first in-house Aniplex dub by Funimation since the merger.

Looks like they're still only dubbing action anime.

Actually blame the parent company, Sony, for buying them out. Or you can blame Warner for buying out Crunchy Roll.

All these look awful. AoA used to put a filter on the anime they touched right? Now it looks filter-less.

Darwin's Game is the first Funi dub of an Aniplex of America license, such a shame Bunny Girl Senpai and Kaguya Love is War were too early to benefit from that :/

I have a sneaking suspicion it may still be a bang zoom dub (hope I'm wrong since funimation typically does better dubs) and that aniplex may think highly enough of this show to do one like they've been doing with FGO.

Sometimes it isn't exactly their fault, but local distribution. Madman had a basic lockdown on anime in Australia, only showing a few shows on AnimeLab and putting geolocks or delays on other platforms, but since Aniplex took over HIDIVE has shown up for Sentai works and AnimeLab is now showing more and more simulcasts.

It wasn't a hostile takeover, Ken Fukunaga basically sold the company to Sony.

Since Funimation became part of Sony, Crunchyroll had no other option to compete than having a big media company as their owner, look at HiDive, at most they have whatever scraps Crunchyroll let's them have but now that they are playing nice with Viz, HiDive will never be a big player again.

The thing is, Funimation is only interested in 1st world/english fluent countries, they do not sell licenses they got for latinamerica just to spite Crunchyroll. But one of these days Fukunaga, bang! zoom! straight to the moon!

Where on their twitter page did it say they would be the ones to dub it? I only see where they simply state it's getting a dub

It was in response to questions on the Aniplex of America announcement tweet.

HiDive was going to struggle to begin with, since it is owned by Sentai. After the agreement between Funi and CR ended, CR struck up a deal with Sentai, which is what impacted HiDive. It was more logical and affordable for them to do that then run their own service.

sidenote: I don't know why you separated the quote. I never implied it was a hostile takeover, I was pointing out how both companies were bought out by major corporations that are in competition with each other, so any agreement between the two companies over sharing and joint licencing was going to end sooner or later
