Did any one else hapeen to catch this amazing and well thought out gem, on spike last night? I have to say that I was really impressed with Sam jacksons VA, and the rest of the cast wasn't half bad either. The animation quality was off the scale, and the action sequences were to quote Ninja Ninja, "Off the Jade". Though I cannot wait for the japanese dub, I really Liked the english one and that says alot, because there have in my opinion been alot of horrid English Dubs lately. ( Bleach, and Karas, comes to mind.)

What?! Dubs suck because they do not convey Japanese culture properly. LOLz

===

No, unfortunately, my lacking of the cable services denies me viewing the Afro Samurai. Even so - yes, I definitely do want to watch it - ever since I first heard of it 1-2 months ago.

Furthermore, where are dem muthaf ckin' snakes?! Laughing

I believe that he actually saying "off the chain" and yes this show is. I know lots of people were upset because it was all style and no story, but I mean come on we already have a plot laid out and it's a Spike TV show, it's suppose to be ultra-violent and hip like that.

As the Afro Samurai might be inclined to say

I saw like the 1st 10 mins of Afro. What I saw was actually pretty damm good. I

had some reservations about this show cause I thoght it would some full of

gimecks and bad ass animation. The action scenes are damm bloody and

cool but ut it was well thought out and looks really really bad ass! Can't wait to

see how this show plays out. I DVRed it so I'll see the whole thing when i get

home can't wait to see it!!!

Darn, if only they used the same video loading algorithm as YouTube. Even so, seeing 5 minutes of it - it's pretty darned good.

Keeping in mind the crowd it was meant to appeal to, I think it was well done. I was surprised at how high-quality the animation was, and it was well directed. I don't think the story was meant to be a highlight here, which explains the overall lack of one (though what was seen was promising).

Sam Jackson did a very good job with Afro Samurai, but Ninja Ninja was unbearably annoying and I couldn't understand half of what he said.

+1.

I decided to give the show a shot (only because I also watch MXC and was too lazy to change channels) and I think Ninja Ninja was the only downside of the show. Why must they include that character?

But it now begs the question since it's aired: will it be a long-lived series, or will it "disappear" like the Blade TV series?

I don't get the Ninja Ninja character either; do we need the extremely stereotypical "token black character" in a show with an african-american cast? Everything that guy said was straight out of a bad comedy with a "wacky black guy!".

I'm a little surprised Sam Jackson did the voice for such a completely stereotypical and cliche character.

Overall though the show was highly polished generic cheese aimed straight at American audiences. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose, but I found myself bored with it.

Also: this is already planned as a 5-episode series.

Either Ninja Ninja is going to get real important real fast or he's just going to be a mildly offensive comic relief character. And I really hope its the former because comic relief characters don't deserve to exist.

I can confidently say that Ninja Ninja will be in at least one fight since...well...his name is freaking Ninja ninja. If he doesn't have some ninja skill then I'll animate myself into that show and kick his ass.

The visual quality was great, but without a good story, it's not much more than mindless violence to me. I'm not big on the excessive graphic violence, never been my thing. I can enjoy a show fine without seeing a guy's head cut off at the nose. To me it was just gore for gore's sake. For that kind of mindless entertainment, I'll take sex over violence any day. Hey, genius, this show was produced for Americans, so why do you think the Japanese version would be oh-so-much-better when it was produced for an English-speaking audience? Sometimes you hardcore dub haters amaze me with your illogical ways of thinking that only go in favor of what you believe (such as bashing the amazing Bleach dub). I guess it doesn't matter if it was produced for an American audience or the Japanese version has horrid voice acting by 72-year-old women who play young boys; the Japanese version is always superior. Whatever.

Agreed! I thought the Ninja character was incredibly ironic. He'd be fine if they turned down the "hip" lingo and energy down a notch but wow. The last thing they needed in this show was a stereotypical Black character when they had a Black samurai.

I want to think that Ninja is Afro's Tyler Durden. I think it's a valid point--only compounded by the fact that both share the same voice actor. My only qualm with the theory is that the crossbow at one point was directly pointed at him.

I think it's good for what it is. It's on Spike, for crying out loud. This isn't going to be Thus Spake Zarathustra. Sure, it's going to be style of substance, but it's fun to turn your brain off for awhile and just watch.

I mean, we have art for art's sake. Why not violence for violence's sake?

Watch this series on Spike, why? Well Spike has gone on record(Infact I recall it was ANN who reported this) saying if the shows 5 Episodes bring in the Ratings it will continue and may live into a Live Action Movie.
