I assume that if my membership doesn't renew until November, then that price increase doesn't apply in my case until the next renewal date, right?

Corporate gotta make back some of that money it spent... Meanwhile, the manga reader app has been broken for years, and badly broken for months. The streaming service still goes down on a regular basis. And the intern who updates the website now only works part time.

As long as Crunchyroll offers 25+ streaming shows each season, the $80 annual subscription is fair to me.

I am hoping that Crunchyroll continue to offer more 20+ per season with the price change and hopefully AT&T invest more on CR. But I am afraid that they would obtain less because Funimation being owned by Sony, just partner up with Bilibili and Hulu would have more money to get more show per season. |

You used to save ~28% by going yearly vs monthly. Now it's down to only 17%. That's almost like a punishment. Monthly subscribers will see their bill go up $12 a year. Yearly subscribers will see their bill go up $20 a year. It's a little crummy that one of the first post AT&T moves was to make the most consumer friendly deal kinda unfriendly. I guess they're at a point with subscribers where getting a smaller overall chunk (but getting it all at once rather than a little per month) is way less of a benefit than it used to be. Anyways, CR provides good value for me and the price will be an easy "worth it" until they cross the $10 a month point for monthly or the yearly bundle crosses $100. Yikes @ EU though. It's not technically a double, but seeing it going from 30 something to 60 something has to be a pretty big shock. If US went from 50 something to 100 something overnight, I'd be back on piracy. |

Price increase? How about an anime titles increase? They have like 10% of all anime made and they have the nerve to raise the prices on their services? That's why [Name of known pirating site removed] is king.

Still reasonable compared to Hulu and Netflix monthly plans so I'm not complaining. As long as they get most of the shows I want to watch and continue with adding older catalog titles I'm set.
I doubt Funi/Bilibli or whatever will affect the title acquisitions much, but we will see and if it does then Funi's monthly plan is cheaper than CRs. Only time I had trouble with CR playing is on my PS app it always runs fine on laptop and desktop.
Ewww THAT site I have other preferences if I want to watch something not legally streaming or isn't legally available. I don't trust websites that want me to disable ads. Besides the series CR gets are worth that price for streaming they may not get all the shows, but they do get a couple big hit shows every season. Yeah, it's not exactly encouraging to see price increases shortly after giant companies get involved. Funimation is set to do similarly, though there is a transition price for current subscribers. On the one hand, I've had the thought that their yearly subscription seemed almost too cheap for what I was getting and knowing that licensing keeps getting more expensive. On the other hand, companies that can look at anime licensing as something akin to pocket change are in the mix, so it doesn't feel like they need to increase prices. |

This price increase is a tad insulting since Crunchyroll is still using an old website that goes down several times per month and was made back when they were a piracy website. This price increase has nothing to do with improving the reliability of their service and is likely paying for their western animation studio which cost tens of millions of dollars. I wouldn't have an issue with this price increase if it felt like it was improving the service and the main improvement I want is a reliable website.

I'm not sure what justification they have for this price increase, using either Crunchyroll or VRV is a chore most of the time.

They were just boasting about record sub numbers and they still felt the need to raise prices this much?! Are they going to hire real editors? I still find a dozen typos and grammar mistakes for every 20 shows I watch. Are they going to hire better translators? My very limited amount of Japanese is capable of detecting issues quite often. Are they going to increase video quality? Their average quality is around 4Mbps. Some anime (Jojo) they get around 7 which is quite a bit better but 1080p should be 8Mbps minimum, as high as 20 if there's a lot of high-motion action.
Their quality all around is borderline unacceptable (Honestly don't know how their "editors" still have jobs when they clearly don't even try half the time) so if they're going to increase prices by such a large amount they better have a VERY obvious increase in quality in every way. edit: boating --> boasting Last edited by Kougeru on Wed Mar 27, 2019 1:39 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I cancelled my Crunchyroll subscription in favor of VRV back when Hidive was added and seeing this now (well a few days ago when I got the email) I'm glad I did.
Though I do wish they'd stop emailing me to tell me I'm "double paying" each time VRV charges me. |
