Seems a little weird that they’re bothering with a dub for this, considering that the Yakuza series only has Japanese audio. Still, I’m excited to play a mystery game in this universe no matter what language they use! Very Happy

Can’t wait to see this available.

Shenmue 3 being compared to this is gonna make the former look...bad I think.

Actually the original version of the first Yakuza game had an english dub. The only reason every game thereafter released in the U.S. didn't also feature it was likely because it probably wasn't cost effective.

Shenmue 3 looked bad to start with though.

Why bothering with a dub? The target audience (mainly Yakuza fans) will play it in japanese anyway. Seems like a waste of money to me.

Glad they dubbed it brings in more fans that don't like subs to support the game plus it's duel audio so if some people don't like the dub they can play it subbed win win for everyone.

That's the point. The number of fans care about dubbing vs the cost of dubbing means dubbing would actually make the game less profitable - in effect more likely to kill the game series

I absolutely agree, dubbing a game like this is a stupid strategy considering that the main appeal of this franchise is it's mesmerizing value as a Japanese soft power. Why waste money in trying to promote it for people who have no interest or knowledge in Japanese culture?

That's the thing. The Yakuza series was pretty unpopular in the West for a long time, so it didn't make financial sense to dub them. However, Yakuza Zero was a fairly big hit in the West. It introduced the series to a lot new people to the point where a dub would actually make sense.

^Heck, the series did so badly last gen that it took Sega longer than usual to release Yakuza 5 in the west and when they did, it was digital-only. Hopefully that doesn't happen again with the new PS4 remaster that was announced a while back.

As for Judgment being dubbed, why not? They did dub Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise last year and that franchise was never that big here in the states like a DBZ or Naruto (even Koei gave up on it when releasing Ken's Rage 2 digital only on all but the 360) plus this is not even a main Yakuza game so maybe it can get more people interested without having to look into the main series (though they really should). Regardless, they're including two subtitle tracks so you won't have to worry about any localization nonsense when listening in Japanese anyway. If only other companies like Bamco could do the same...
