Huh. I didn't know there was a manga for Tale of Genji. I read some bits of the story for a college class, but I didn't like it too much. Maybe reading this manga will help me appreciate it more, and I'm a sucker for old manga.

A manga exhibit at The Met?! That is sooo cool! Are they going to have a print release in time to sell at the museum's gift shop?

There's also an upcoming manga exhibition at the British Museum. Golden Kamuy's Asirpa-san is the poster girl.
https://www.britishmuseum.org/whats_on/exhibitions/manga.aspx I read perhaps two-thirds of Genji, using both the Waley and Seidensticker translations at different times and agree it is slow going. The noitaminA adaptation Genji Monogatari Senneki is beautifully illustrated but also pretty slow. You do get to hear Sakurai Takahiro as Genji, though. |
