I honestly don't know how I feel about this. I'm not someone to judge something before I see it, and looks are hardly everything (Detective Pikachu looks genuinely well-made and creative, despite using more realistic designs), but this... looks like it's going to take a lot of getting used to in terms of aesthetic. |

The Sonic fanbase has generally erupted in disbelief and anger over this, I think this is the first time the infamously divided fandom is united over something in years, even if it is in hatred.

I also hate it. A terrible juxtaposition of realistic human proportions next to an outlandishly large head, plus "fur" that does not at all behave like fur, gathering into three improbably perfect cones. Ick.

Just because they can make a realistic looking Sonic the Hedgehog doesn't mean they should have made one. I am fascinated by the Hollywood trend of making realistic looking CGI creatures since they are going out of their way to challenge the uncanny valley.

as a kid who grew up watching Sonic saturday morning cartoon...they have SHAFTED Sonic franchise for ages now. apart from colors and the generations (and debatable forces) there hasn't been a respectable game since i think Gamecube. and NOBODY wanted a sonic movie that made him look like....that. |

FWIH, the real-world "furry" CGI isn't the only comparison to be made to the Detective Pikachu movie. (Which, to be fair, looks like it would be the Pokemon movie we always wanted, if they would just get the main character and the Obnoxious Ryan Reynolds Pikachu out of the way...) This movie is probably gonna make Disney's live-action Super Mario Bros. look like a masterpiece. At least Detective Pikachu looks promising.

Unleashed which has practically crossed over into vindicated by history territory due to people seeing what an actual bad game featuring Sonic looks like with Sonic Boom And Mania despite it basically being a somewhat uninspired throwback that in part does the same thing Generations did. Sega has shafted the franchise less than it's spoiled fanbase has. |
