NEWS: In This Corner of the World Anime Film Gets Extended Version With New Title

The previous version of Kanashikute Yarikirenai is an indelibly poignant piece of music, and is sadly underused in the film itself. As obligatory as it is to be featured in the new cut, I must admit that the new orchestral accompaniment deflates its impact. Those ornate flourishes of string sections are frankly too pretty for a song about crushing anguish, and they are certainly no substitute to the haunting overdriven guitar of the original.

I loved this film, and now there is a reason to watch it again in cinemas, if it gets released again that is. There is a dub for the film, will they dub the new scenes, or would it not be worth it.

Wikipedia has it listed as 129 minutes (vs. 162 for Disappearance and 163 for Final Yamato), so it's possible but probably not. Depends on exactly how long "about 30 minutes" ends up being.

Eh, I dunno. I absolutely LOVE Corner, and own both the movie on DVD and the manga. But I'm not really sure about giving Rin more screentime. I didn't think she added much to the manga, other than causing an unnecessary argument between Suzu and Shusaku at one point that made zero sense. I thought what little screen time she had in the movie was just fine. Still, more Corner is always a good thing for me!

I agree, the original is far greater at capturing the bittersweet image of the film.

Should be "Ikutsumono" rather than "Ikustumono."

If this means I can see the film in theaters again, I am all for it.

Well, I like this version in the trailer a lot, because it is the *exact* same version as the movie's opening and immediately sets the movie's tone while young Suzu is exploring Hiroshima of 1933. In other words, what you hear in the trailer is the *original* one used in the movie.
