This is both sweet and unexpected, I wish the best for both of them <333
EDIT: Well, I guess it was a 'joke' after all...sigh...

That's adorable.
I'm wishing the best for them.
Although, I'm a little nervous to see their fans reaction to this.
Hopefully, they will be supportive.
Because it's rare to see queer couple from the anime/manga/gaming industry.
I hope that both of them will remain a happy family till death do them apart.

It's great, but WHAT? I thought same-sex marriage is prohibited in Japan. When does it changed?

There were a few shocked responses but I didn't see any negative ones. Most all of them seemed congratulatory on their twitter, at least!

I mean, it's nice if it's true, but there's a "it's a lie" tag there. So I'm confused if ANN didn't realize it or I misunderstood the tag.

It's not legally recognized, but several weddings have been celebrated. Disneyworld Tokyo even allows you to do them in there.

So, in the end this is just some sort of "staging", not a real marriage? And this is probably why they used that hashtag.

They have "marriage certified" in some cities, and people using it treat it seriously.
It's not the same as marriage, but it does give them some rights, like renting apartment together and others I forgot. I doubt it's why they used the tag.
Also, most comments are treating it like a joke, like "Oh, congratulations..wait, was that a lie? Damn!". So I guess it's supposed to be one.

"Uso" can also be slang for "No way!?" (implying yes, it really did happen.) I have no idea about the use here though. So maybe it really is just a joke? Really hard to tell.

It's a little different when you use like that. And well, the comments aren't really treating it as true. Some said the tweet is cruel. Some actually wished congratulations and then corrected themselves saying they didn't realize it wasn't true.
Well, it's not a nice thing to joke about, so who knows.

Hey guys, I'm going to reach out to both parties to see if I can get a confirmation/response. Like other posters said, sometimes "uso" is used as a shocked expression instead of a joke so it's hard to tell either way.

Sure, go ahead, but the tag isn't just "uso" it's "uso da yo" which in my professional opinion never used in the context of surprise or shock. It means quite literally "Actually it's a lie!"
