They didn't even wait a year for the heat to die down. Not even a year. Yikes.

I only hope fans will continue to boycott this scumbag and maybe this magazine's sales numbers will be hurt that they will reconsider.

Well that sad career end was shorter than I thought. Seriously they just said he "reflected on it and deeply regrets it" moving on to more working on his manga now despite being a confirmed pedo. Over here he'd get fired and never work again/serve years in prison or end up like Roman Polanski. Subway scrubbed Jared clean from their company basically after he got caught with the wrong type of porn on his computer.

Wonder if this was affect the readers of his manga any?

Although I am extremely disappointed in the fact that he was caught with something as disgusting as Child Pornography, I can't help but still feel a little bit relieved that the series is continuing. The original manga was a huge part of my childhood and I couldn't believe the news when the author first got caught. I like to separate the work from the author and I know many people don't feel the same way. I would have been more relieved if his wife decided to continue the manga herself while he served a harsher sentence, since he did just get off with a small fine. And I doubt the sales will be affected since this seems to be a common problem in Japan, since Child pornography was once legal and many people still have it in their possession. Sales outside of Japan however most likely will take a hit.

There's more zero tolerance to drug use in Japan than pedophilia it seems. I mean Paris Hilton and the Rolling Stones are banned from entering Japan because of their drug convictions.

After he got fined, this was inevitable. At least he was punished in some capacity, unlike what would usually happen with celebrities until the Weinstein effect.

I’d love to, but why does he need to come back? Can’t they hire a new mangaka to finish the story and cut off all of Watsuki’s royalties? At least after he serves a proper sentence, at which point I would accept him back as long as he’s clean?

Because anyone besides Watsuki working on it is a pale imitation. I get that many of you arent willing to bury the hatchet on the issue and probably never will. All that matters to me is that I still get to enjoy his work while both he and I are still alive. In fact as long nothing else happens in regards to the law we might even get to see a proper conclusion to Kenshin's story instead of that Reflection OVA

I’m wondering whether or not Viz will add it back to the line up of their Shonen Jump? I mean, the charges against him were pretty gross and I can perhaps see a US company being more hesitant to start running his work again.

(That said, as disgusting as Watsuki’s habits are, I would like to see it back. I do love Kenshin regardless of the author’s issues. Though I fully understand the view of people who feel otherwise.)

Seeing individuals decide that their need for more fictional content is much more important than adequately punishing a known pedophile is both sad and extremely sickening.

Many other shonen jump manga could have been given Priority over this pervert ( heck a lot of their animes ranked pretty high in the NHK 100 year anniversary poll) yet they get nothing because apparently being a Pedophile is okay in japan.

A lot of people here tend to forget that while Japan is strict with child porn theyre not as strict as the US and theyre also somewhat tolerant with those who toe the gray area (i.e borderline child porn). Trying to compare their laws and yours is the same as comparing 2 different societies. Either accept the fact that Watsuki is back because both he and Shueisha feel its their duty to see this through or boycott him for life. No one is making any of you read it you know considering Viz lets us read it for free

"The announcement noted that Watsuki is living a life of reflection and atonement, but that Shueisha and Watsuki decided that continuing the manga to answer the desires of fans was a matter of duty."

Fun Fact: Duty in Japanese means money money money
