Calling it right now, this is going to be the Rakugo Shinju of the 2020 Crunchyroll Anime Awards (as in, most of the judges will love it, and most of the public won't watch it).

Does anybody know how Kunihiko Ikuhara identifies gender-wise and sexual orientation? Given the nature of the themes of the body of work and google image searches, he(?) just doesn't strike me as identifying as a straight male.
I'm always looking forward to whatever he produces although I confess, I still haven't finished Utena. I stalled out when the show felt rather repetitive in the first half and I just haven't picked it back up.

Why does it feel like the whole thing will break into a song at any minute? It was bad enough at "don't let it go, desire is your life" but now we have "Am I a lie, Is the world a lie, Are we a lie"
Honestly, I'd love to see this guy do an anime musical.

Hmm I wonder why these teasers show the male bathroom symbol 3 times and the new one...has a ferret? Dinosaur?

I hope this one is a yaoi rather than a yuri, but knowing Ikuhara's affinity for lesbians I won't hold my breath.

I haven't seen anything other than his indications that he's a normal, straight male. While his works have obvious themes of deconstruction of gender roles from a postmodern perspective, that's not necessarily saying much. (His focus on yuri he's said is a result of his noticing that regular male-female relationships tend to become the focus of the plot, overwhelming other points he might have been trying to make.)
That said, he's notoriously cagey when responding to all questions, so I'd take almost anything he says with a grain of salt. His explanation for a certain transformation in the Utena movie stands by itself.

Definitely worth picking back up. Repetition is actually a key part of his works, even aside from the time/cost-saving measures that were typical of the time. Can't say too much more without spoiling, but Utena is famously re-watchable even *with* all the repetition, so ... yeah, watch it
(Without spoiling, though, it definitely does "build up" to a more and more intense plot progression during the final 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4 as the path things are taking becomes more clear. Once you get into the 30's, I've found people really can't stop watching.)

All though it's impossible to tell until we get much more information, it does seem to be hinting at yaoi ferrets starring Junichi Suwabe.

Suwabe once again narrating. What could this be?
