Kakuishi said that, as part of the reaction to his situation, he has heard that some workplaces do offer overtime pay. However, he wonders if assistants are receiving proper overtime as mandated by law. He maintained that creators must ensure that they are abiding by Japan's Labor Standards Act.

Good that the manga industry is doing something right. Now, try do the same for the rest of Japan's workplaces...

That he apparently only consulted the Labour Standards Office after his blog post - & that doing so resolved the issue pretty quickly - kind of suggests the problem is general ignorance among workers of their rights & the mechanisms already in place to ensure their enforcement. One shouldn't assume your boss is better informed than you are of your rights, or that they won't exploit your ignorance if you let them.

Good advice for anyone: keep your own records of what your employers ask you to do, when, how long, etc. and--if you think they're doing something they shouldn't--consult a lawyer, as they may well be violating labor laws or regulations.

Especially if your a citizen of the United States, as labor rights are swiftly diminishing here.

Say what? Nobody is taking away labor rights. If you got a news article, by all means link it.
Closest I hear is crackikng down on corruption of labor unions who are sitting on millions of dollars, while taking dues from unemployed laborers.

Having a GOP admin means fewer rights for workers, full stop no debate. But if you want an example look at the new "tip pooling rule" that they are putting into place, where employers can make tipped workers pool their tips and then give them none of it.

Also unions while not perfect aren't "sitting on" millions, anyone who tells you other wise is a scab loving agent of the corps.
