Personally, I'd have included Ys VIII and Odin Sphere Leifthrasir (yes I know it's a revision, but it's a quality release on many levels), which are both solid titles.

The fact that Wolfestein II is even on this list should tell you all you need to know about this list.

If you're using Time magazine to pick out which games you should play, you probably shouldn't call yourself a gamer.

It's opinion dude you don't have to agree with it but you don't have to be so incredulous over it.

To me NieR Automata deserved to be on that list way more than Destiny 2.

I say this about any magazine. You should know your own tastes by the time you're old enough to pick your own games.

I know. It's for my personal top ten since I only just started playing it this year.

Lol. I love how they didn't even list the Wii U as one of the consoles Breath of the Wild was released on. As if they were like "So help me the Wii-U will NEVER get a game of the year!!!!":

Not really. Shooting Nazis is fun. And having alt-righters be butthurt over it even more so.
But Nier: Automata should definitely be on that list.

I don't have a current gen console and am not likely to get one soon (though I might finally get a 3DS with some Christmas money) so my opinions on current games are largely moot, but I am glad to see that the majority of games on the list are primarily single-player games despite all of the hype about single-player games being a dying genre just because a couple of studios seem to be betting the farm on online-only multiplayer experiences with loads of microstransactions, loot crates, and pay-to-win.
While I don't mind going online for DLC (as long as it's proper DLC that's an expansion pack to an already-complete game and not just content that was originally intended as part of the original game proper but partitioned off into DLC to milk gamers dry), I'm still pretty much only interested in playing single player games that don't require you to log into an online server to play.

Thats why I don't get why people care so much about reviews and scores. I can tell if I'll like a game just by looking at it and what it is. I don't need to be told I will like Zelda or Persona as a Zelda and Persona fan. I'm glad Japan doesnt plaster review scores and quotes all over their game boxes like the west does.

But we're on an anime website and youre praising a misogynistic Japanese game. That's as alt-right as wecan get
