Now that it's this close and they haven't announced it yet, I'm really afraid that funimation isn't gonna pick it up like the previous season

Im nervous as crap right now too but they still have only officially announced 10 new licenses for simuldubs thus far so theres still hope

It is a little concerning. I know that sometime licenses don't get finalized until the last minute, but we've already seen Sentai come away with Seven Heavenly Virtues, and previously Amazon licensed season two of Rage of Bahamut, so I don't consider it a given that Funimation will have it.

So the first episodes out of the gate and no license from anyone this late may say viewership was off in some way or not enough of season one sold in Japan?

The novels sold like hotcakes in Japan before or after the anime. License has nothing to do with how it sells in Japan. It's up to the people in charge from the western company.
