Does this even affect me as a NA customer? I don't even remember seeing the Animax app on the store.

Quote: | AK Holdings will serve as the management company for both Animax and Mitsui's Kids Station channel, and will produce and distribute anime. |
It would be nice to be able to watch the Kids Station programme Anipara Ongakukan legally in Australia - currently one would need to have a credit card to get a paid subscription to Nico-Nico Douga to be able to do this. Those of us on irregular income and using debit cards rather than credit cards can't get a paid subscription to Nico-Nico Douga from outside of Japan.

It would be nice if they had a region-free legal PC app where you could stream 95% of the Animax titles. You could finally have a legal way to watch those horrible Animax English dubs.

What does this mean I need a PS4 to watch shows?

Bye bye Animax...
Their going to drastically lose alot of their audience doing this. Anime not that popular enough people will follow them on exclusive network behind a pay wall.
Shame.

Given that it's SPEJ(apan), no.
Darn, the headline got my NA hopes worked up too, but nope, looks like Sony STILL can't get that AnimaxUS started in the states, however that was supposed to work out.
(Especially as I've been finishing up the Animax English "Card Captor Sakura" dub on Crunchyroll, and it's one of their better ones.)

This could be the beginning of Animax's end...
Not everyone has the money to buy a PS4 just to watch a few shows.
