Nightwalker! Discotek did a lot of good by license-rescuing that old series. It was a formative show for me, airing as it did on Locomotion. In the late '00s, I put a lot of effort into getting the old Central Park Media discs. The second disc wound up being an old Blockbuster copy; came with the Blockbuster insert and everything! I don't think I'll double-dip, not unless those old discs bug out on me.
Really glad to see it back. The dub is pretty bad (Shido's VA, who also did Kenshin in the Ruroni Kenshin dub, is a wooden plank; Lex Lang as Cain is more passable, but his Dracula accent is kinda distracting), and the first four OVA episodes really needed more time to explain stuff like the Golden Dawn or the origin of the Nightbreed. But this really is a solid show; solid design, solid direction, solid action. Such a shame it was lost to the ravages of time. Glad we have Discotek!

Surprised the reviewer didn't talk more about the dub portion of Food Wars, from what I've heard you either think it's alright or it's hot garbage.
The clips I've heard didn't leave me with a very positive impression and I've heard rumors that Erina is voice with the style of a Valley Girl. Contrary to the reviewer I felt like very few voices fit that characters at all.

The only thing he said about it was that he thought it was good. Personally I think it sucked but not completely cos some VAs did an OK job. And yes Erina's VA made her sound like a valley girl and Megumi's VA would occasionally use words that dont suit Megumi's character. Basically for me some of the VAs dont have a grasp of their characters' personalities

That's less on the VAs and more on the Directors and script writers I think.

I just finished the show dubbed and I didn't think she sound that much like a valley girl, its even missing the slang, like totally. She simply had a stuck up rich girl attitude which is what fit the character. I thought the dub was just fine, not fantastic but not terrible either.

Its true that the directors and script writers are really to blame but I dont think Stephanie Wittels' voice suits Erina's character. Erina is a stuck up rich girl but thats not all. She speaks and behaves like a noble lady because she technically is one as far as SnS's gourmet world is concerned. In fact you couldnt tell she's still just 15 years old by her appearance and attitude if she wasnt wearing a school uniform. Yes she's a snob but the script and Stephanie herself made Erina sound more American than necessary.

I really enjoyed Food Wars, far more than I expected I would. One thing that struck me while watching it was that the premise of the academy sounded very much like the backstory of the Chairman of Iron Chef.

I liked Food Wars! but right now, it's a waiting game of how much gets adapted and who gets to release/dub later seasons. So I'm going to hold and watch the first season dub on HDIVE and put more money into Aria... which is already up to double pluses with three cours dubbed.

Sentai already has rights to season 2 and Crunchy to season 3. Its now a matter of whether CR will dub it or not. Im almost certain Sentai will dub season 2 though I cant back that up just a hunch
