Ugh...We're getting (half of) Apocrypha before we get Kakegurui even though it is only 12 episodes. Moving to real Netflix Originals can't come soon enough.

Good thing that I don't care for either of those titles. I agree that Netflix should focus in true original anime projects and leave streaming of seasonal tv series to other companies.

This is just insane. I really don't get why they don't do weekly release with ENG subs for the people that truly care to watch it. It doesn't harm the people that want to watch it dubbed later. Absolutely crazy that it's gonna take over 5 months for since it's airdate for this show to be available outside of Japan. I'll not even care by then. If I can't watch a show in it's current season, I generally forget it exists and never watch it because the fast pace of new releases overshadows older stuff.

So even though that Kakegurui's run will be over by October they plan on releasing it in 2018? Yeah, that's fucked. They can certainly do better than that.

I was honestly happy to wait until October or November for Netflix to release this series... but now you're not doing that until next year? Yeah, no. Fansubs it is then.

Doesn't everyone already in some way, shape, or form? Studios have lost the war on piracy years ago. There are very few ways to really combat it. They tried DDOSing the fan sub and torrent sites a year or so ago and all it did was force them to go back to old methods of distribution.
No one really knows how to deal with the situation because they didn't prepare for it. The Internet is replacing TV more and more. Draconian tactics don't work because for every studio that strong arms viewers into subscriptions or needing to be a local cable company customer to access content, there's a dozen free streaming sites that pop up that deliver all the locked content for free.
They could treat it like over the air TV and just fill it full of advertising, but then there is adblock. The studios have been dragging their feet on this for so many years that now they are at a complete disadvantage.
Then there are studios who are ran by idiots who lock content. Look at Lovely Complex. Great anime but never released in the west. Will likely never release because of studios and creators holding it down. Only way to see it is to pirate or visit streamer sites and watch fan subs.
Then you have publishers being dumb. Look at Sword Art Online. It could have been so huge in the west. But the publisher who got it, locked it up, hiked the price through the roof, and held it there till it was clear it failed to catch on enough. Why pay 3-4x the price for an anime DVD when you can get fan subs for free or watch streams? That is a valid question. Publishers like that aren't helping the industry, they're hurting it. Pure greed and it wouldn't have to be had they released at a decent price point that people would be willing to spend.

What? Lovely Complex has been available twice on DVD from Discotek since 2013...

I imagine Netflix don't care if you pirate it first, so long as when you watch it again it's on their service.

It's like the impermanence of streaming media and the tortoise-like release schedules of DVDs/BDs had a baby...

ah, SAO was a huge hit when it came out in the West, so I don't know what you are talking about. It has since lost steam not because of the marketing end but because people realised they screwed it up and the anime is trash.
