This just reinforces that what is reasonable for fans and what is reasonable for the producers is not the same. Given how the production was tearing apart at the seams they wouldn't have lasted another cours. Yes four years was too long but next year is reasonable (plus the author wanted to avoid filler and given that it was caught up by the end of the first season and that Titan is monthly, it unfortunately took that long). Given how ragged the animators and staff run themselves, I dare say they get to decide what is reasonable. We fans are the ones that need to be more reasonable and patient, though again four years was too much, but that doesn't seem like it will happen again for Titan.
Given that Wit is responsible for zero LN adaptations, sacrificing them would not give us more Titan. You may not like them but that doesn't mean everyone agrees. What kind of source material faces more calls to be abolished? For LNs (and maybe mobile games) its critics aren't satisfied with merely disliking them and not watching them, but often advocate against their existence, in anime form at least. It would be one thing if they were consistently bottom tier but considering many of them do fairly well in the rankings here (including, yes, Suka Suka) that isn't the case (also 2 of the top 10 anime of the year, as ranked in the megapoll, are LN adaptations every year for three years running). I don't mind people not liking them, but can you just let us have our LN adaptations? |

It's too late.
Light novels and everything else you love are the cancer killing anime. Anime used to be perfection when the only things airing were Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragon Ball Z, and Neon Genesis Evangelion, but now it's all harem moe light novel *crosses self furiously to ward away the filth* trash. As esteemed legend Miyazaki Hayao-sensei said, anime is dead. |

Bringing up a dead meme to try and be comical. That's hilarious in itself. |

Dudes, it was a joke, chill out.
I appreciate that Micchy brought up this bit about KADO
A lot of people are jumping off KADO now because they claim it was smart before and just now it became stupid, but it was dumb from the start? We spent so many weeks on the connundrum of the Wham and unlimited energy but what did that accomplish? The writers took the easy way out by not committing to show any consequences while also portraying Glorious Nippon as the heroic rebels fighting the evil UN tyranny. |

I think this reflects a problem with this entire column; it's not actually This Week in Anime but The Week Before Last in Anime. It's always discussing episodes a week too late, after the next episodes have aired. So the column is still in the "boy, I hope we don't have to wait another four years for another season" discussion even though this past week we learned that it's only a one year wait. As far as KADO, the standing around discussing stuff and its possible implications instead of showing it is not incredibly unusual in classic live action SF. Given the subject matter, the 1951 original The Day the Earth Stood Still comes to mind. Certainly not everyone's cup of tea, though. Interesting to note that the weekly rankings didn't show a decline for KADO with the reveal episode (but more with the episode afterwards.) Also worth noting that the show did have the PM remarking that if any other country had gotten the technology, Japan would be right there in the UN making the same demands as everyone else. It's not quite GATE or Shin Godzilla in its geopolitics. |

Nick here, just wanted to address some folks' issues with our jokes about Light Novel anime. While we like to joke about LN adaptations and all, neither of us seriously, genuinely despise them or want them to stop existing. I think that's fairly evident since we've both spoken rather positively of Grimoire of Zero and Kabukibu! over the season, both LN anime. While we do make jokes and take the thunder out of LNs occasionally (both in TWIA and on twitter) we're not trying to disparage folks who enjoy them or enjoy the shows we discuss negatively.
Besides, we all know it's mobile game anime killing the art of anime, right? |

^I did't know Kabukibu was based on a LN .
I can accept that. I'll admit I got a bit too heated on the issue, considering how often they are scapegoated for the ills of the industry. On an unrelated note, Just say yes to Frame Arms Girl, Nick |

I'm still enjoying WorldEnd, in spite of everything. It would be nice the story focused a little more on Ctholly (as it seems like she's one the story really seems to be about). I also wish they'd let us know just how old the male lead is, so i should know how problematic the main romance is. So far, the show's doing enough for me to keep watching. It's more of a character driven show than an action show, which seems to have rubbed some people the wrong way i guess. It's not the best show this season by any means, but i'm ok with a "6/10 that could have been an 8/10".

Why don't you guys discuss Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul every week? It's the best anime of the season, as far as I'm concerned and it's continuing on to next season! (ok, it's a *very* strong season, but Nina's got the most expressive face, so she beats all!)
Charioce does seem like a spoiled, entitled, humans rights activist and human supremacist Millenial, doesn't he? But we haven't seen his *tragic backstory* yet! And as much as I want my favorite show of the season to avoid cliches, explaining Charioce's motivations and making him a bit more sympathetic to the audience in the process is probably unavoidable, especially since he's had a big, romantic date with lead character and Best Girl Nina Dragonhalf. I'm expecting some kind of flashback in the spring cour's finale, or the summer cour's premiere. Talking about tragic backstories, Todoroki from My Hero Academia has a compelling one, and I completely agree that his conflicted feelings and aftermath of Deku's "fight therapy" is very well written. So I don't mean to take away from that when I suggest that it reminds me more than a little bit of Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender...I know that A:TLA wasn't nearly as popular in Japan as it was in America, for a lot of reasons (Nickelodeon Japan is more of a premium channel than Nickelodeon here, I've heard the show wasn't even completely dubbed in Japanese, etc.) But if there is a Japanese creator who may have seen the series, it would be Horikoshi, who is a huge American comic book fan...so it *could* be a coincidence that both Todoroki and Zuko had abusive, powerful fire dads, a burn scar over the left eye inflicted by a parent, a (mostly) loving mother who disappeared during childhood... It's just a lot of superficial similarities that add up. I'm not complaining, I'm a huge Avatar fan and think Zuko's story is one of the best parts of it, so I admit I'm a bit biased. |
