This is the most marvelous piece of Pokémon art I've ever seen to date! Buying this watch is like buying a Ferrari!

Cool, but I wonder how long before the Pokemon rights holders pull the infringement cards.

It's an official piece of merchandise, so there shouldn't be any lawsuits.

This is another thought for another day, but I wonder if anime/gaming companies really have the power to sue anyone making and serving food and drinks based on any of their franchises, like the Pokémon burgers and the Eeveelution cocktails...

This is rather typical of Romain Jerome. Each time piece is literally handcrafted. Then they add in parts that are so rare that they jack up the price through the roof. Examples in the past where they did this was with their Titanic DNA watch. They made a watch, which used actual iron from the Titanic to craft the hour and minute hands. A sister watch to the Titanic DNA collection had actual coal from the Titanic, sprinkled and embedded into the watch face. Another was the Moon DNA watch. With that one, they sprinkled and embedded actual moon dust into the watch face itself. Then you had the Delorean DNA watch. This watch was crafted from actual parts of a Delorean.
Then RJ limits the watches down to 100 or so, and after that run is finished, it's gone for good. Thus why their watches are so expensive, hand crafted, using ultra-rare parts, and extremely limited when released to the market. |

Well, I guess I won't be buying a house anytime soon.
..is what I would say if I actually had this kind of money. |

For the sake of comparison, I was viewing watches on Ebay today at prices of no more than $5 per unit. Timepieces make for a strange choice of investment, I shall remark.

Not to mention there's only one of them. I can see a private collector snatching it up like it was nothing though--that's how extremely expensive collector's items tend to be.
Well, it doesn't sound like he used any rare materials for this one, unless he somehow traveled into a Pokémon game and pulled out a Thunderstone from it, or there's a drop of Satoshi Tajiri's blood, or something.
The people who can drop this much money on a whim don't need to buy a house because they likely already have a nice, big one or several smaller ones. They also probably have private, personal museums of similarly-priced items. At that point, it's not that they want to use it so much as it's a status symbol, simultaneously of their vast riches and of how big a fan they are of the thing. |

Tbh the design is kinda ugly, esp for that price. Then again I've never been a fan of just overlaying a bunch of characters to fill up space without having any real design to it. It just ends up looking too cluttered. But hey, what do I know, not like I have the 258,000 to back it up hahaha

The fact that it uses a Tourbillon for the watch movement, is probably the key motivator as to why it's so expensive.

I don't like the design either, especially in how Generation I centric it is, but the fact that it costs a six-figure sum is reason enough for some people to be interested. |
