I wasn't the biggest Deadman Wonderland fan, while it was extremely interesting in concept it was far too edgy for my tastes, but Smokin' Parade shocked me with how much more involved in its story it was from the get go.
Rather than focusing on the gory/horrific elements, this one seemed to do quite a bit to set things up fairly quickly and get us on the path to a very interesting looking story. It also helps that we do not just have Ganta 2.0 in our protagonist for this one. I don't know if I could handle another variation on the psycho-girl and somewhat pining boy dynamic that permeated the shounen action genre at that point in time. Overall a good read, and I cannot wait to see where this series goes. Great review here, it sums up a lot of my thoughts as well! |
