Been waiting so long for the Steins;Gate film that I'd actually kind of forgotten it was still on its way! ^^; I have vague recollections of seeing the thing fansubbed years ago, but also that the subs were so incomprehensible that I was thoroughly stumped by what was actually going on, so definitely looking forward to a re-watch.

Kyousougiga was great, just really wish it had gotten a dub. Given how packed it is, a really good one would have made it even more enjoyable to watch. I'll have to pick it up eventually though.

I made it through the first and halfway through the second episode of Kyousougiga before saying "This is too much for me." and stopping it. Should I give it another chance? I remember it being really hard to follow, but I might've just not been in the right mood to watch it.

I just finished rewatching it on BD, and can confirm what Gabriel and Jacob and Zac have all said about the subs. I liked the initial stream, but if you were struggling with it, this release has significantly better subs, and is definitely something you should get if you think it's the kind of thing you would normally like. It's definitely the best, and easiest to consume, way to watch the show. |

I think I made it through 4 episodes before I got so lost and depressed at not being able to understand what was going on that I gave up, even though I could tell I was watching something good.  When it was over, I went back and semi-binged it at 3-4 episodes at a time, and having read some helpful hints from following the discussion even after I quit, it was much more accessible to me and I ended up loving it.
So if you liked BBB and/or were intrigued by what you saw of Kyousogiga, then I'd say yes, give it another shot. Maybe watch the episodes in tandem with reading the discussion thread. Btw, I did not find it at all helpful to have watched the 2011 ONA prior to the series - in fact, I think it confused me more than if I hadn't seen it. @ Matthew - I share your tastes in anime it seems.  I'm somehow impressed that you have all the individual disks for Kenshin (I have the 3 box sets, which are in storage since I transferred the disks to Tyvek envelopes to keep the not-acid-free cardboard slots from marking/scratching the disks as they were already starting to do). I'm actually in the middle of rewatching that series, and it's interesting to see what has held up and what hasn't - it sure does look dated though, and I can't believe how grainy the dvds are, with visible dust on the film in some shots. But Kenshin v Saito is still one of the best sword fights ever put to celluloid.
I was also delighted to realize I could pick out the Pluto set as being an Urasawa manga before I could make out the title. Anyway, nice collection! |

@matt we have similar stories and tastes! Claymore is what got me into manga as well. I actually like that i came into anime/manga as late as i did; i came in right as streaming became a thing (if it weren't for Hulu, i'd have never been able to watch anything)

The problem with Kyousogiga is it's so confusing. The show was great to look at, but I had to go back and watch the ONAs (did they put those on the disc?) to figure out most of what was going on. All in all, it was at least fun to watch. I feel like it got passed over in the Kill La Kill hype.

Just throwing out some words I thought from that one: silly, loud and frustratingly clichéd, how much of that would apply to a show that's trying to be sold... these are the words to my right as I type this... as "frantic fantastical family"? I know the first two words are adjectives but it feels like "family" is being used to describe something unless the series really is about Matsumoto's family. |

your shit drops when you know it was done by TOEI, yeah, yeah read that one right, the mighty toei. Cause weebs all know and remembered about toei was they do long running shounen series with little budget with mediocre animation, but guess what, they did this masterpiece. seriously, they should also watch PRECURE for more awesomeness.

When I think of Toei, I think of Galaxy Express 999, Interstella 5555, and the Clannad film, along with all the old classic Go Nagai shows, but I guess younger anime fans wouldn't have been exposed to anything but the shonen cash cows. It's just like when people complain that Studio DEEN has awful animation, but haven't seen Patlabor, Simoun, or Angel's Egg. |

To be fair, most younger fans would watch those things and still THINK they have bad animation because they don't understand what that actually means. Also, Simoun, while utterly gorgeous, especially design-wise, does look a bit dated these days mostly just thanks to it being unfortunately very low res early digipaint and utilizing a lot of early CG. |
