Ah, Rebecca the proper quote is: "Musick has Charms to soothe a savage Breast," It is from a play by William Congreve He is also the source of other interesting quotes. He must have had an interesting love life.
While considered from a modern usage of "breast" it causes some interesting mental images, I'm fairly sure it meant that music could calm down agitated people. |

I know - I was making a Bugs Bunny reference: the 1948 "Hurdy-Gurdy Hare." It's about on-par with the level of brilliance in this manga.

Ah, I noticed that Bugs was the next thing listed below Congreve. That explains why the misquote is so common. |

Yes, I think we can lay the blame for frequent misquotation squarely at the feet of that Wascally Wabbit. He's also effectively ruined opera for me. (Or maybe given me a new appreciation for it?)

He is not the only culprit. Think what Disney did with classical music in Fantasia (dancing hippos in tutus) or for that matter Queen in bohemian rhapsody.
