damn.. i still am waiting for HD to release online lol.. i am holding it out. but this movie has achieved so much success!! SHINKAI MAKOTO GOD. SPIRITIED AWAY i think is still on no.1 highest grossing anime film of all time.. I THINK this is going to go up and beyond that!
i loved spirited away and all hayao miyazaki movies.. but makoto is the NEXT big anime film director...

If I recall correctly, doesn't China specifically limit the amount of foreign films that can be screened in the country to only about 20 a year, largely to protect its own domestic film industry? I guess I'm wondering about the broader context of how many 2D animated films have actually screened there in the first place, to put the headline into perspective I guess.

China seems to like anime a lot more than American's (average) audiences do.

This is a good point. (According to this article, they'll being increasing the quota to 34 films per year in 2017.)

They will probably release it soon after Oscar nominations. I think they are waiting (and hoping) for a nomination before putting it in theaters.

Asians have different standard than U.S. U.S. likes super hero movies, not romance anime.
