I've been following Dengeki Daioh for the last couple years whenever I'm near a Kinokuniya (well, the SF one anyways; Chicago consistently doesn't have it), so I saw when this launched about a year and a half ago, and how it has steadily risen in prominence in the magazine, to the point where it's actually on the cover of the January 2017 issue.
This issue also comes with a clear file with a big "BLOOM INTO YOU" in romaji on the back, which is interesting because they weren't using the English name until recently; it's all been "Yagate Kimi Ni Naru". |

I saw the thumbnail and immediately thought it was yuri doujinshi for Yukino and Yuigahama from SNAFU.
I guess the review explains some of that. It also sounds kinda interesting as a story. I might have to pick it up at some point. |

Man, that second paragraph alone is giving me flashbacks of my middle and high school years. I think it'd be interesting to read a manga that consciously separates sexual and romantic attraction outside of the usual tropes--I feel like disinterest in dating in manga is usually done to set up a "One True Love" scenario--so fingers crossed that this series decides to do something different with its premise. ^^;
Though I can't complain too much; both Go Get a Roomie and Girls with Slingshots (both nsfw) handle their asexual characters with enough nuance to make me a happy camper. I just there were more stories like those. ^^; |

Years of consuming romance stories left not just Yuu with unrealistic expectations about love it seems, apparently some readers are also utterly unable to parse a story that's about anything other than love at first sight. It's not like even the title itself already heavily hints towards that or something. But of course, asexuality it is.

Somebody isn't familiar with the origins of yuri in the Class-S genre. [url]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Class_S_(genre)[/url] Quite a few series Westerners consider yuri are actually Class-S -- MariMite, Strawberry Panic, Saki -- with no overt sexuality beyond hand-holding and, maybe, kissing. |

Hopefully more prominence means a better chance of it getting an anime adaptation. The character designs and a subtle different take of your usual yuri title has caught my attention which is why I have this avatar.

I never really felt that Yuu is asexual. I get the idea that she actually likes Nanami back, but puts the brakes on her feelings for some odd, as-of-yet undisclosed reason. She never pushes Nanami away, and is also not against spoiler[kissing her at one point].
I do feel that the story trends to drag on for a bit, and the author is not above the old cliche of muddying the waters by throwing some guys into the mix. I think there's only so much leeway you get get out of this premise, but I like the characters (especially Nanami) so I will likely keep on following this. Beg to differ on Strawberry Panic. Both the anime and novel versions have clearer sexuality in it (albeit admittedly in small doses). |

Just FYI, but asexuality is not defined by not engaging in sexual acts; it's the lack of sexual attraction that goes along with it. Several asexual people engage with their sexual partners for a variety of reasons, from wanting to please their partner to the desire for children. That said, I still don't think Bloom Into You will go that route, if only because asexuality as a whole isn't very accurately portrayed in manga or anime, but that misconception of "romantic act = sexual attraction, therefore does not equal asexual" gets tossed around often enough that I felt like addressing it here. |

Not to mention that asexual ≠ aromantic or unaffectionate. Emotional attraction still exists for asexual people, and they can still physically express their feelings as well as accept the physical expressions of others. That said, I doubt this series will include canon asexuality because Japan is not exactly known for progressive ideas about gender and sexuality. It still sounds like an interesting read. It makes me wish Seven Seas did ebooks. |

Considering the main barrier between the two is a lack of reciprocation of sexual attraction specifically, I think it's pretty safe to say asexuality is not at all off the table. It's not like there were any signs hear that it wouldn't go that route. |

Because we read the text, not the packaging: there's nothing in what's presented to us on-page that indicates that Yuu is attracted to girls. Or to boys, either. It's probably worth your time to have a careful read-through, keeping notes: see exactly what the text shows Yuu as doing and thinking. The text is in a pretty close third person, so we do get a fairly clear idea of Yuu's thoughts. [In MariMite... Sachiko is straight.] |

The obvious default assumption you should make from that is that she's currently not in love with anyone, not reaching interpretations with the sole intention to congratulate yourself on your fine knowledge and sense of justice. In just about any context by the way, but the context of a yuri manga about falling in love makes this all the more needlessly priggish. And no, the title is part of the text and you should read it, especially since it's often referenced in the manga itself. Maybe try a careful read through? You seem to have missed some things. Yuu literally spoiler[enjoys kissing for the heck of it, without romantic attraction, and finds herself enamoured by Touko’s sexiness long before she's ready to admit any romantic attraction.] Your delusions of Asexuality go nowhere and were never meant to be. It’s nothing more than a self-pleasing fantasy in your head. |
