Hockey all the way. Hockey is such a high energy sport that it'd be great to watch.

Golf. It is a pretty sedate sport so it would be really amusing to see them apply all those sports anime/manga tropes to it.

Concerning Ghost Hunt, Mai's fellow psychics aren't classmates, and the majority are adults.
(I wonder if GH and Ghost Stories aren't getting muddled together here.)

Can I say marching band? So much drama, time, and energy is put into it that it is listed as a sport in my current county. Band competitions are super intense and so much goes on, between performing and awards and watching other bands...if it took figure skating years to get Yuri on Ice, then I'll wait even more years for a marching band anime.

I voted Sumo simply due to Hinomaru Zumou. That series is as spunky as it gets.

I would kill for a women's roller derby or gymnastics anime! Or a women's martial art/boxing anime that's more Hajime no Opportunity and less Wanna be the World strongest.

What about Hell Teacher Nube? Ghostbusting is a part of that too.

So, an anime adaptation of Teppu?
I've been gunning for a men's gymnastics anime directed by Hiroko Utsumi for years now. I'd also love a yuri about roller derby.

Good to see Ghost Hunt on here, and Ryoko's Case File intrigues me. Yu Yu Hakusho is well known, but I think it still deserves a shout-out.

Why is Mob Psycho 100 on here? The ghost busting thing lasts for like two episodes. Did someone just want an excuse to put it on the list?

To be fair the Ghost Busting part of Yu Yu Hakusho was only apart of the first few chapters of the manga (and didn't actually involve chasing away ghosts), after that it strictly involved Yusuke and company fighting a collection of demon's and what not.

Dodgeball and MMA would be pretty cool as sports anime, and I agree with a previous commenter that an anime about Golf complete with typical hot-blooded sports anime tropes would be a great straight-faced comedy. Archery and hockey would also be good.

They did get fairly confused, with Stories coming out as the same time Hunt was playing the fansub circuit--
Although many of Mai's cases are on school grounds, so that also explains the confusion.
Remember, Ghost Stories is the lame gag-dub kiddy one, and Ghost Hunt is the genuinely creepy-scary one.
And Ghost Hound is the obnoxiously artsy one.
(And nice to see Ghost Sweeper Mikami remembered...Imagine Lina Inverse's slightly more mercenary contemporary descendant, only not quite as self-effacing.)
