From that season this show was my favourite aesthetically, as in I really liked the character and costume designs. Production values of the TV airing weren't great so I always planned on picking it up on Blu Ray, which I did.
Wouldn't go out of my way to defend it as much as I would some other shows, but I liked it well enough. The whole past life thing works decently as an excuse for why Moroha goes from total n00b to world's strongest so quickly. What I appreciate most is that he's consistently shown to be more intimate with a particular girl which carries through to the ending. While he doesn't openly pick her or anything it's clear he's made his choice. It doesn't backpedal and force him together with the first girl he met. |

The only thing I really remember about World Break, apart from it not being very good, is that I thought the magic system was something that would work much better in a book than in animation. The idea of the casters having to write out their spells while chanting is kind of cool, & certainly a change from the usual "Flashing buttplug!" engrish nonsense they usually shout in these things. But in practice watching a character frantically wiggling their fingers while reciting entire paragraphs didn't really work for me. Takes the "why are they just standing there & waiting for him to attack?" problem to a whole new level.

Aside from one or two music tracks, and the occasional nicely-animated scene, this show has almost nothing memorable, re-watchable, or semi-enjoyable going for it. If one wants to look at it from that perspective, the show's biggest "accomplishment" would be its blandness among the 2015 -- and in recent memory, if fact -- LN adaptations.

Yes, she was his sister in another and yes, she was his lover in another life. But it's cool- there's nothing wrong with it now. And it's a little late to be complaining about love interests calling their beloved "onii-chan"/"big brother" because isn't there always one who does that, usually the youngest one or the dreaded childhood friend?
It may be bad, it may be rushed but I certainly enjoyed it a lot more than Absolute Duo because you can't call it boring- wait, someone just called it "bland", this show about the guy who's the reincarnated white knight and black mage is boring- the white knight who really loves his sister and the evil wizard who's a really sweet guy to war orphans, absolute terror to anyone else. Maybe I watched and remembered something else. |

So we are still thinking that magic high school stories shouldn´t exist? Admit it, the genre is misused, it could offer something interesting. It´s just that the authors of these novels have a BIG COMFORT ZONE when it comes to hyping you with its world, but showing you fanservice and dissapointing you with lack of everything that made Harry Potter interesting(yes, we could have at least an equivalent to Harry Potter in this type of series).
Is the light novel of this series any interesting or is false hype like others? PLEASE tell me |

I did find it unusual that there are no commentaries here, which might be attributable to Funimation deciding it wasn't worth it. Then again, DxD Born didn't have them, and Blood Blockade Battlefront had short video Q&A sessions rather than commentaries, so maybe they have gotten busy enough that it is difficult to schedule time to record commentaries.

World Break was okay. It had a good opening and watching Moroha kick ass was fun enough. Satsuki was a bit annoying...ish and I found the chanting kind of silly and cool at the same time. A watchable show, it had a few nice moments, but not something I'd recommend to anyone.
He was? Uh... spoiler[with.... Shizuno]? Gosh, I don't even remember anymore. Speaking of her, I found her to quite likable. Which is surprising as I'm usually not into that type of character. |

I didn't really remember that being the case either, but she was clearly the best.
I was kind of disappointed by this series. It had what sounded like one of the best premises for the whole high school magic battle thing, but it doesn't really seem to go anywhere. I'm sure they cut huge sections to rush through, but they covered quite a few LNs yet I can't really see where it is going. On the other hand, there are series like Anti-Magic where they also blitzed through, but I could tell where the story was going by the end. |

How dare you talk about Maya that way? Off-putting? That was the funniest and definitely the cutest scene in anime history.
A spoiler[kiss] followed by becoming a hug pillow can change a person. The end of the story will make it clear why she's narrating. spoiler[I'm kidding about that last part.] |

I don't think anyone thinks the genre shouldn't exist, just that it is oversaturated, generally and with mediocre entries. I'm am sympathetic to the argument that the genre has more merit than its critics give it credit, but this is not the example to bring up (Chivalry among those from the last year or two). @KH91 Hopefully you're kidding about the first part too. If you don't know why treating an underage child as a hug pillow is off-putting, I don't know what to say. Heck, even Moroha is off-put by her behavior. |

^ lol I'll leave it up to your imagination. Also, Moroha is just shy.

^With your permission I shall and frankly I already have. And asking if it is illegal doesn't strike me as shyness but being off-put as I said
Edit: And I would be remiss not to bring up Poe's Law where relevant |

^ That's the great thing about perspectives. We each have our own.
Good thing you brought up PL. I forgot to warn the unaware. Nice save. |

Yeah, I found the lack of commentary to be a bit odd too. Even shows where it's obvious the dub staff didn't give two shits about the show they were working on have gotten commentary so obviously this one probably did not get good streaming numbers.
Though considering Funi are going to dub Sister Devil Testament in a time where its streaming numbers are readily available I'd say these shows still have some popularity here in the west. |
